I know a few guys who have equipped their jon boats with electric winches for use in catfishing. They're not real open about how it's done (because there aren't that many catfish big enough to need catching this way), but apparently you use a shark hook at the end of quarter-inch aircraft cable, big bream or perch for bait, and wiggle the line with your hand until you get a bite...then your buddy hits the switch and pulls the fish right up to you.
