SO PLEASED

that I'm spending my first night at 'my cottage,' about which I reported several times last month. Ad no longer up on craigslist, but here's the description, minus the beautiful pictures:

'Small country style 2-story cottage located on Patuxent River in Calvert County, MD, 5 miles from Solomons Island, 23 miles from St Mary's College, and 60 miles from DC. One large master bedroom, 2nd smaller bedroom/study, two living rooms, front and back enclosed porches, patio, private dock and beach, large kitchen, washer/dryer, central air & heat as well as wood stove. DirectTV dish installed, some furniture available.'

Probably won't be fully moved in until Sept. 11, with all furniture and fixtures, but, even tho there's still some work to be done, I'm staying here tonight, and enjoyed this evening's sunset over the river. SUCH TRANQUILITY!

Is this temporary, or are you settling in for good?

Whichever way it is, ENJOY!

I'm really happy for you!

When everythings done, and moved in, will be one of my permanent residences! Still staying near town (DC) with friend ? % of the time, and keeping 'mountain-view' place in more northerly MD; cottage is in southern MD. Will consider leaving the northerly place in about a year but like them all, so keeping an open mind. Fortunate to be able to do so!

Haven't gotten into bed yet, and hope I can find the lights! Stairs a bit tricky, and painters removed the railing (temporarily,) so will tread carefully!

and without a handrail, omg!

Handrail will be restored this week, so future not so precarious. I may install indoor/outdoor carpet, to further secure footsteps, later.

And I like your idea about the carpet. If you have space, you might consider handrails on both sides...We have that, and they are great. But our stairs are 4 feet wide, so there's room.

Not sure about the width, and NOT going up to measure now!!!

Stair curves for first 4 steps, straight up for ? 5 or so more, and each step is a different height from the last!!! (OLD house/cottage!)

WISH I had a camera suitable to show DU; that will come! Sat outside, front lawn/yard facing the river earlier, and started reading a BOOK! (McCullough's John Adams) Haven't done THAT in a LONG time! And then, I took a picture of the SUNSET!!!

Painting crew were almost as taken with the place as I am!

SO HAPPY!

Enjoying!

Will leave in a few hours, maybe after sunset? as carpenters coming to do more work tomorrow AND I've got to go back to John's apartment to approach the final stretch of moving his stuff out. Movers coming next Tuesday and Wednesday.

AND, I can walk outside, pick ripe figs, watch sailboats (and others) on the river, and read a book!

Very different from townhouse community close to DC which, while comfortable, just isn't interesting. Friend and I have different feelings about this, but that's life!

May put roses in, so I'll be able to talk them into growing!!!

haven' been there since the summer of 2011, when John's sister and her husband started all that trouble...I could tell there was something different about the house, a bad, foreboding of things to come...but the wind in the tall trees was soothing and the days melted into cool nights and sleeping was great...

Has been a while, eh?

Outdoor sounds at night a pleasure, and then, the sun rises, and with 3 windows in the bedroom, will learn to tell the time of day/morning!

Let's think of timing for a visit, OK? 70 or so miles from Aspen Hill. 495 > Rte 4/Pennsylvania Ave, then about 50 miles.

All things (I think!) will be moved in next Wednesday, including guest bedroom BED!

edit: "landlord/owner," who along with wife and 16 year old triplets who attend Wilson High, just brought me 2 huge tomatoes and box of cherry tomatoes! They gave me carrots earlier, and encouraged me to pick figs, which I did!

They're only here weekends, and kids were fishing in the river yesterday!
