if its ten pm on the West Coast, than of course back east its much later.. so there may or maybe no one there. The thing is if you take a friend you can go there any time, and you will probably draw a crowd from other IMVU patrons. The room is for all the Duers and visitors so enjoy! I hope many of you will give it a try. The best time is around the afternoon for people to be there. If there is no one there you can always come find me, I will be around somewhere!

Kind of surprised DU doesn't have a hangout there as well.

For one, IMVU doesn't have the massive download that SL has. Secondly, rooms on SL have to be rented. If you buy a room on IMVU, and fill it with nice furniture, and you make it public you are the owner, and allow for moderators to help you run the room. Personally, I believe the Avatars are better looking than SL.

IMVU allows you to move, from jumping from spot to spot. On SL you can walk or fly.. but again, that comes with the massive download. IMVU can be pretty impressive. There are music players, or you can purchase music from the music store and set up your own music set. This music can be heard by all members in the room (Unless they chose to mute it.).

IMVU also has groups (Clubs you can join. Most interests are covered.) IMVU has a catalog from which to purchase items from with IMVU credits. There are two types of Credits. Promo credits, which you can earn, and regular credits which you can purchase. People will often times buy you items from your wish list. I have many times given credits to my friends who were low on credits, or had none.

... it appears that LL are now claiming copyright over anything uploaded to SL, which naturally has the content creators in an uproar, and rightly so.

Is IMVU content user-created, or is that something that comes with the SL "massive download?" Almost everyone I know in SL does some custom content. Some of the skins, etc, are outstandingly realistic.

There are two three times of developers. One type may take two separate items and put them together into one combination, and sell them.(Some of those credits go back to the original developer.) One can be a creator, which actually puts stuff together piece by piece and the original owner of the item. A third type of developer may take an item, like hair for example, and color it in their own special way and sell it in the catalog.

There is peer review process that takes place..making sure the items are suitable for purchase. AP items are so marked, because they are adult items. (For example some swim wear that might show a bit more than usual.) Developers after selling their items receive their credits 14 days after the sale. This gives the buyer a chance to ask for a refund if the item doesn't work.

Many people I know are developers and have made some rather nice extra change from selling their items. There has been no issues in regard to copy rights, for example, people have created Star Trek related items, from Star Ships to Uniforms and no one has complained to Paramount about it.

The program only works with windoze. Those of us not using it can't get in.

Yeah, awwws sorry. I am pretty sure Mac users can log on to IMVU. So, for those of you who have Mac's you are good to go!

Seriously, I want to state that we are not trying to take anything from DU, but rather to enhance the experience with a bit of fun. We are not stealing members away, we just want people to have some where to go and relax and have some fun in the virtual world. If in fact people think this is a very bad idea, I will gladly erase the entire thing and find other uses for the furniture I provided. This 3d Chat room is in no way created to cause a problems.

I was kind of shocked to hear there was a negative reaction to this, as the whole idea was to provide a little fun for everyone. A place to sit, chat..dance, play a musical instrument, pet a kitty, play Air Hockey, the piano.. and even sit and have a virtual meal with friends.

I hope people understand the spirit in which this was created.. as harmless fun.

I appreciate you setting it up, it will be fun. Those who don't want to participate certainly don't have to. They are two totally different environments obviously. Last night I was on the forum and in the virtual lounge at the same time, I anticipate that is what I will be doing in the future too if there are people in there when I am.

It really is super nice meeting people there, in a kind of face to face way. The conversations were fun, and there were no long posts to have to wait for a response! I hope many people will at least try out the chat program. There are many options to play with..and things to explore. Thank you again, everyone! lets do this again really soon, shall we???
