When the whole "last communication with the loved one before the 'light'" happens and Melinda (idiot extraordinaire) changes the words of the dead person when they ask her to say something.
Ex.
Dead person: "Tell her that it was because I loved her so much that I took the job on the oil rig. I didn't know it was going to explode and that they wouldn't give you the insurance money and that little Tommy would grow up to be such a pill. It wasn't my intent."
Melinda: "He says he loves you."
It's really annoying. Really annoying.
Have a good day everyone.
Still Blue in PDX
(1,999 posts)Melinda never struck me as being particularly bright, and I sometimes wondered about her wardrobe choices, but I love her jewelry and have to insert a plug for my friend Josephine who designed many of the big pieces for the first seasons of the show.

(68,918 posts)The jewelry is one of the best things on that show. Tell her I said Great Job!
Melinda does not seem very bright, or even a very strong female character. It's another thing that bothers me.

(1,999 posts)She's traveling in California now doing some festivals, but I'll tell her you said that! That's what I said, too, when she told me.

(11,700 posts)How do you know what the dead person said?
How can you tell if anyone on that show is stupid?
Sorry in advance.

(24,895 posts)The audience hears the ghost speak...they are regular characters, not "ghostly" at all....but, of the other characters, only Melinda can hear and see them, and then she relays the words back to the person...
What's weird is that not only does Melinda change the words ("He says he's happy" oftentimes the message is changed so completely it loses it's meaning.....IE: Ghost: I will always love you and can't wait til you get here. Make sure to feed fluffy." Melinda to family member who has been haunted: "S/he says it's wonderful there."
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)I should have explained the whole "viewer can hear what the ghost is saying" part. Thank you for doing that.
And your example is awesome. MrG and I used to watch this show all the time and it used to irritate the heck out of me. I need to get a life at some point.

(24,895 posts)drove us freaking crazy...almost didn't want to watch the end because of it. Personally, always wanted to see the ghost say "Tell her/him EXACTLY what I say VERBATUM."
Rob H.
(5,352 posts)and is telling her what they want her to say to their living loved ones. She almost always shortens it to something much shorter and less personal than what she's told.
The Dearly Departed: Tell her from the moment I saw her radiant smile the first time we met, I knew I would love her forever.
Melinda: He says, "Nice teeth."
(I only saw a couple of episodes, I swear! Even then, I was only roped in by Jennifer Love Hewitt's magnificent bosom.)
Edit: Dang, I'm a slow typist today.

(68,918 posts)I'm going to repeat it back as close to word for word as I can. Otherwise I would be stupid to even bother. Hence my thought process on Melinda.

(34,139 posts)Seriously, does she still wear the really bad fake eyelashes that she did for the first season? I just couldn't stand how horrible they looked on her. I thought fake eyelashes were done thirty years ago!
She's an attractive woman - why does she feel the need to wear that much makeup?
ScreamingMeemie
(68,918 posts)I stopped watching after everything happened with MrG because watching shows we watched together was painful. Yes, she had the huge eyelashes.
