(6,581 posts)Coke refers only to the specific brand. All Coke is pop, but only a small percentage of pop is Coke.
We have the local brand, Faygo. Heretic that I am, I think it's not the best, especially their diet cola. Blech. Tastes like dust.

Except for the Dallas Cowboys fan that lived in Fairfield County for 20 years. Yeah, it was really fun watching the DALLAS COWBOYS win three Super Bowls while living in CT. Too bad one of those didn't come while I lived in Maryland!!

(12,132 posts)And then, if needed, got more specific about what kind of coke. Even unto pepsi products - if it was carbonated, it was a coke until we needed to know if you wanted a Mountain Dew or a Sprite or a Dr Pepper. (OR a Mr. Pibb. We didn't associate with people who liked Mr Pibb though. Them cats was weird.)
I lived in Dallas from 2nd grade until a few years after graduating high school. I did have a boss once who was from Colorado and we laughed at him because he called it "pop". He had it comin' what with his Broncos worship and all.

(17,213 posts)Real culture shock moving from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. Two entirely different vocabularies. My grandmother asked me if I wanted a soda, and I replied "Yes, strawberry."
Never lived in the land of Coke.
