she made it - probably in the 50s. It has eye holes, and the rest was drawn or painted. She would tie the neck with rope & have some straw sticking out of the neck & sleeves. Topped with a straw hat, it really looked like a scarecrow.

I've never worn it myself - no way to drink beer with it on!

Those are really scary, as scary as a Hollywood costume designer could come up with because they don't look slick and new.

I thought you posted something like this a few days ago. But now that I look at the old pics again, I realize they are different than before.

probably Papier-mâché... Years ago... may dad got this giant balloon and filled it up. He than Papier-mâchéd it and when it dried he popped the balloon inside. Cut it so it would fit on my shoulders.. painted it brown, added a few details with Cardboard and made me into a bobble head bear. Too bad those photos are not around any more.. It would have been fun to show you the results.

You can make some wonderful masks with that stuff.

He used a balloon as the base. You blow it up.. paper mache it and pop it inside when its dry... perfectly round mask..and you can even sand it down so you do not have many rough edges. A little paint and you have a mask.
