So,I'm going through stuff in the the old spare bedroom today. We have boxes of old negatives. These date back to the 1950's and go up to the mid 1990's. I've decided to make this a project. This is going to take lots of time and I'm going to give a little bit towards this every weekend between now and next summer. My question is this. Where can I take these old negatives and have prints made of them? Some are the size of a thumb nail. Others the size of a postage stamp and others are 3x3 squares.
Obviously, they are all gonna be different sizes once printed so instead of a photo album I will probably buy some nice photo boxes to store them. Many I've never seen before,so it's kind of exciting. It's just that I can't take them down to my local CVS or Walgreens and have them copied. More than likely I'll have to send them to a photo lab that specializes in this sort of thing (which I fear may end up costing me a fortune, which is why I am looking to do a little at a time)
Anyone have any suggestions on where to take them?
Oh, and I also have old 8MM and 16 MM film home movies I'm going to want to convert to DVD.

(149,636 posts)I would suggest that you Google "photo labs" or some such, and see what's in your area.
You might also post this in the Photo Group. There are many great photographers in there and they are very likely to know more about this than I do.
Here's a link for that Group:

Good luck!

(9,612 posts)is load them onto my computer's scanner and scan them at the highest possible resolution. Then I use a photo editing program to flip them from negative to positive.
Here's some examples of the final result:

(5,062 posts)Yes,I've heard about scanning them but was not sure of the process. Once I do get these done I then go to work on photoshop/photo restoration. I have some original photographs that are in bad condition that I need to restore. As of now, the pile is very small but I on top of discovering these negatives I also found tons of old photos. Not sure if the negative to some of these photos are here or not. Thanks again for the advice!

(5,062 posts)Maybe scanning them won't be as difficult as I feared at first. Not sure if I mentioned it but I have boxes upon boxes of nothing more than negatives. Tons of old photo envelopes. Right now I am trying to be careful that I don't scratch the negatives. Thanks again for the suggestions and help. I appreciate it very much!
