I might not be on for a while later, so wanted to post this now.
Episode Synopsis: The group faces a new enemy; Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the others fight to protect their hard-won livelihood.
I wonder if it's swine flu, or something more serious, like some speculated last week:

Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)I'll still enjoy it either way.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)though, the show has been frustrating at times, too.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)This season looks better, lots of action.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)last season started off great, but I thought the second half dragged at times (though, it did have good moments, like the death of Merle...)
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)last weeks episode was actually a pretty solid, well rounded episode and yet I still felt a bit underwhelmed. I think its because of the long wait, and also because last years opening episode was off the scale great.

(302 posts)Maybe swine flu?
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)with the pig dying being the hint
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Where's the walker.
Here he comes, there he goes.
Now it starts.
Not even a chance to scream.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)thought Phineas was going to jump out at her...
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)That was fast.
Two walkers now.
There goes number two.
I have been watching this show to long, the guts falling out didn't bother me.
The love nest.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)about the guts. I wouldn't say it's "ho hum" but last week, they gave us a walker hanging by his guts...
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I would be packing mine.
With that many walkers at the fence, it just makes common sense.

(49,445 posts)If anybody dies, for any reason, they come back as a zombie.
When survival was day-to-day and the situation very fluid, worrying about such things such as heart attacks and strokes was a very distant threat.
But now... there are no more immunizations, and limited antibiotics.
Now, at this time in the zombie apocalypse there has been a lot of Darwinism going on. Lots of the elderly and chronically sick died in the first few days or weeks of the apocalypse. Need oxygen to live? Too bad. Failed kidneys, on dialysis? You didn't make it. Diabetic? Yeah, you became zombie lunch while in a coma. Wheelchair-bound? You were a zombie's "meals-on-wheels".
So the ones left are those that are healthy enough to fight and run, to live largely without medicine or other medical technology.
But... seasonal flu? Yeah, its all over the place. Now, of course, there's a lot less travel than before, so that will help some. But it's not perfect.
And there's the usual run of causes of deaths... food poisoning, cholera, dysentery, salmonella, etc. Plus all the non-infections ones, like cancer, heart attacks, strokes, etc.
Once you're secure against the external threat, this other stuff puts you at risk from within.
Honestly, I think what they're going to have to do in the prison is have each person lock themselves in their cell every night. If somebody turns, they can't escape to attack anybody else!
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I think the only people with a gun was Glen and Maggie in the love nest.
I know they needed to relax for awhile, but damn.
How do you relax with people coming back and trying to eat you.
Brigid
(17,621 posts)How'd you like to go like that?
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I would like a fighting chance.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)It is good he is a tough kid.
That is no world for the sissy kids.

(18,705 posts)Now back to the real world.
Brigid
(17,621 posts)NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)my daughter is around the age of those two girls.
I guess they won't be naming walkers anymore.
I will be truthful, the kids should really be tougher.
If they don't they will become walker dinner, unless the sickness gets them.
They need some kind of a normal life but normal in a walker world.
charlie and algernon
(13,447 posts)That meeting of the Jedi Council was perhaps the most realistic discussion yet on this show. They've come a LONG LONG LONG way from the stupidity of Camp Dinner Bell.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)putting everybody on death row now...
charlie and algernon
(13,447 posts)since anyone who has that flu is a dead man/woman walking.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)though, without antibiotics and/or at least something to reduce the fever, it might be tough.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)It is a old herbal cure for stuff like the flu.
Really.
I use it, it works.
Brigid
(17,621 posts)NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)He was mentioning something about how the virus can move quickly. He could be a great resource for the group - if he survives.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Another suspect for who is feeding the walkers.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)The best brand is Sambucus.
It comes in a small bottle 4 oz, more then enough.
Black Elder Berry extract really works.
Flu, colds.
Take it has soon as you start to feel sick.
The flu or cold will be shorten by days.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)at your local health food store. Season 4 is starting 6-7 months after season 3 and season 3 started 6-7 months after season 2...
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I would be looking for stuff in health food stores.
Maybe a few boxes hidden in the back of the store.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)looks like the fence is going to give. And, the walker's face slicing into the fence was a new one...
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)They are not so tough now.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Taking the razor wire from the top.
Doing something like the crazy guy did in his town, I can't remember his name.
Bracing the fence, anything like that.
Brigid
(17,621 posts)Wonder who it is.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)interesting, though
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I think we will be surprised when we find out.
charlie and algernon
(13,447 posts)Something tells me this transformation back to regular teenager Carl is just temporary and psycho Carl is just itching to come out again.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)that would be crazy
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)I get the impression that he's pretty cocksure about interacting with walkers. Wasn't he taunting one stuck in the creek, in season 2?
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)he learned his lesson later on when that same walker killed Dale.
charlie and algernon
(13,447 posts)Brigid
(17,621 posts)That might be a mistake.
charlie and algernon
(13,447 posts)Don't know how many they had total.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Need to rewatch the show.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Couldn't eat them anyway.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)like how Merle had the walkers following him in the car last year in his final showdown?
Brigid
(17,621 posts)Whether it has anything to do with the zombie apocalypse, I don't know.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I wonder if someone else had a baby at one time.
Just the way she was holding her.
Poor little pig.
Couldn't eat them anyway.
I spent time on a farm, pigs were not pets.
Calfs were not pets.
Rick did the right thing.
Wish he would killed them first.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)is she going already? That will kill Rick
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)She was coughing.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)on Beth? That's why she left, to get something to wipe it off?
WilliamPitt
(58,179 posts)Garden variety baby vom. Trust me, I'm an expert.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)I thought there was a stream of red blood in there, too. However, on second look, it was Beth's red beaded necklace that I saw.
Brigid
(17,621 posts)texanwitch
(18,705 posts)All the newcomers should have had walker bootcamp.
They did need a break but they live in a tough world.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)There was that wrist band.
Carol now had two daughters.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)Is The Governor hiding out in another cell block? Or, some crazy person?
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)We will be left hanging.
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)Took Patrick long enough to go on the attack.
Wonder why people aren't on watch at night? Last season when all those older folks came from Woodbury I wondered if the crew wouldn't set up watches in case someone died in the night. Someone dies in the night and comes back, starts attacking others. Need people on night watch.
Now we know what Hershel means by 12 dead plus 2 in cold blood. Wonder who the murderer is?
More hints on Michonne's back story. (Judith scene w/ her)
Still...what idiot is feeding the walkers?
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)She was hugging the baby, didn't want to at first.
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)texanwitch
(18,705 posts)She was really nice to the governor's zombie daughter until she found out she was a walker.
I haven't read all the comic books.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)well, couples sleep together, but people close their cell doors at night so no roaming walker can get in, or if somebody gets sick & dies at night, they can't get out. (not just the flu - what if somebody has a heart attack?)
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)I'd lock mine with a chain and master lock from the inside. lol
Because people can die in their sleep from all kinds of things.
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)might have spotted the flashlight wielding person feeding the walkers also.
Turbineguy
(37,372 posts)Fox News viewers en masse.
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)Mika seems to be the stronger emotionally. Even though she didn't want to watch father die (again), she was strong for her sister when she broke down. Also, she knows a lot about Lizzie's thinking. Recall how she told Carol that Lizzie wasn't crazy just messed up in her thinking about Walkers. Carol should have asked more about that.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Could be wrong.
I don't know if a little girl would touch a mouse or rat.
Also someone has to catch or trap them.
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)and maybe that person is feeding the walkers.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)the drinking guy from last week maybe? Carl? Carol? or,maybe the Governor (or an ally of his) slipped over the fence one night and is hiding out in the prison somewhere?
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)I wondered if the Guv was about last week and still think it possible. Or maybe he has someone on the inside.
I think it's an adult. Just don't know who.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Back up real fast.
See, they leave us with this scene for next week.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)put the petal to the metal, as they'd say.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Not that many from behind.
Get out of the car and you are dead.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)7,500 walkers, according to Greg Nicotero. And, it looks like there were more than that. Wow!
I guess they got a pretty good budget increase after last season! (after season 1, they cut the budget for season 2...)
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)That was a lot of walkers, a far as the eye could see.
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)Wow! How will they get out of that?
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Like it does any good.
Wouldn't take that many walkers to turn over the car.
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)You're right. Wouldn't take many at all.
Wonder where they're going? Wonder who survives?
So many questions and we have to wait a week.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Just type in Walking Dead forums have fun.
I visit two forums.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)same screen name as here. Though, I have not been that active lately.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I can't think of the other one's name.
There is a facebook group, and I think something on AMC website.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)beyond the thousands of walkers - university dormitory? corporate office building? (maybe trying to get medical supplies?) Seemed kind of in the back, like it was not downtown Atlanta or anything.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Some kind of population center, or just a big bunch of walkers.
A whole week to wait.
Solly Mack
(90,788 posts)NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)that could be why they're headed there.

(6,252 posts)Thanks
davidpdx
(22,000 posts)But it would be helpful to get more people into the TV chat. It's kind of a walking dead place of it's own.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)I didn't even know there was a TV chat forum and I've been on DU for 10 years, and this is the third year we've been posting TWD discussion threads in The Lounge, and the only complaint was about posting spoilers in here, even though the OP is always labeled as containing spoilers.
davidpdx
(22,000 posts)Usually there are updates about when the new season of shows begin. Little Star posts quite a bit of information in there. I believe there are some TWD threads as well.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)thanks
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)I don't sense outrage at the pig killing - just people upset.

texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I spent time on my grandparents farm.
Pigs were not pets, you didn't name them.
You eat them.
This is a tv show, people are funny.
I am more upset about the food stamps being cut then pigs.
NewJeffCT
(56,829 posts)I remember my aunt & uncle raised a few pigs, but their daughters named the pigs and got upset when the pigs had to killed. (One was even named Wilbur) The pig raising didn't last much longer.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)They get uncute will fast.
To me they were just future bacon.
It was the only way to view them, you just didn't want to get to close.
The same with the baby cows.
The pigs did meet a bad end, eaten alive.
The pigs couldn't have been eaten anyway, just put down.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)The guy that was killed in the beginning was picked because he was snoring.
I didn't notice that last time.
Karen was almost picked but our newest walker heard the snoring and went for the throat.
Just remember not to snore around a walker.
