OK so I had some people over for the Super Bowl yesterday and this is what my guests considered "desert" - a heaping helping of 1100 calories (more than the meal we had), 65 grams of saturated fat and frosting made from high fructose corn syrup.
And these were purchased from Costco - really - there's an entire ROW of deserts to choose from! And they're all good! Why get this as a desert?

(8,601 posts)Far more intelligent to bring a big ol' fruit tray full of assorted melon bits, kiwi, papaya, pineapple, berries, grapes and whatever else. Just my two cents.

(102,283 posts)I have to admit they do smell good when you walk through a mall, but I have avoided even trying one for years. Last time I gave in to a "heavenly smell," was in Paris with the chocolate hazelnut (nutella) crepes one could smell from a block away. One bite and I was hooked. It took me damned near forever to stop craving nutella after that. LOL
As for why they didn't choose another desert from Costco? Well, I would guess all of them are loaded with saturated fat and HFCS--certainly all those cheesecakes must be.

(41,984 posts)I'm still reeling a bit after being chastised for bringing my (specifically requested) appetizer to a Christmas cocktail party in a small crock pot... I had to drive 70 miles to get there and could not think of another way to keep them (Swedish meatballs) reasonably warm... I'm still not sure why that annoyed my hostess, but apparently it did. Was I supposed to bring them in a crystal bowl (and let the guests develop food poisoning?) Knowing I was coming from some distance, shouldn't she have reserved a bowl to serve them?
Sometimes you should get credit for at least trying, I think...

Maybe your hostess was stressed about hosting or something, wanting it all 'perfect', but she was way wrong - if anyone is willing to drive 70 miles to one of my parties, I'm going to make sure s/he has a comfortable seat and a drink on arrival, not a heaping dose of criticism...

Off topic: Can you tell me how you got the sigline to take your font color html? I've tried the normal way (which works here) to color text (i.e. font color = "red" WITHIN brackets followed by text followed by /font within brackets) and it doesn't work. thanks!

but with the square brackets instead of the < >. I imagine that other attributes could be listed in there as well - this seems to bump the size up a bit - but I haven't played with it.
I think OhioChick figured that out, I nabbed it from her sig a while back...

(7,904 posts)a full days worth of saturated trans fat, sugar and sodium in one little deep fried package.
I have a test for such "desserts" if you eat something and it leaves a wax like grease on your lips that sticks more than chapstick; don't eat it.
