The movie about the real life battle between Formula 1 drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda for the 1976 World Championship.
I thought it was a very good racing movie that more than makes up for the awfulness that was Sylvester Stallone's "Driven." Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl are both excellent as Hunt and Lauda, respectively.
For me, I LOVED seeing the old racers and their beautiful machines out on the track. I think I was the only one in the theater that laughed out loud when one of the McLaren owners cussed out Emmerson "Fitti-fucking-paldi." Seeing Mario Andretti's black Johnny Player Lotus was a joy and I was actually rooting for him to win in the final race over Hunt and Lauda.
As for the main rivalry of the movie, both Hunt and Lauda are presented equally and as both sympathetic and dastardly. The movie doesn't pick sides and doesn't ask you to pick sides either. Both men are presented as passionate about their sport and they both have an equal respect for the other.
As I said, it's a very good movie and it's probably one of Ron Howard's best.

(8,217 posts)It was pretty cool.
The scene where fans were going crazy when one of the drivers drove their car was infectious. That type of excitement was palpable and I can see myself doing the same thing if a race car driver drove my car and went fast.

(10,575 posts)It's probably accurate, but most of it came from Lauda.
I saw the making of and want to see the movie.

(13,447 posts)I actually didn't recognize that it was Olivia Wilde till I saw her name in the credits. I did read in Wiki that Ron Howard wanted to include Russell Crowe as Richard Burton.

I heard that Russell Crowe's scene has been cut, I don't know if it was filmed.
