(2,670 posts)The characters seemed realer they had real flaws unlike say star trek where for the most part they tried to portray the main characters as mostly flawless. Which I understand two different ideas of the universe in the future. The scary thing about Babylon 5 im rewatching it and the storyline especially with how much influence corporations have over the general politicians seems so relevant

(12,132 posts)but for some reason we never got around to it - that was before DVRs and stuff. So I missed it;s original run. If it was available in hi-def I'd watch it now.

When the long night comes, return to the end of the beginning.

Earth: Final Conflict (though they murdered the show with the 4th season)
Space: Above and Beyond
Alien Nation

(2,670 posts)I can't remember if I watch space above and beyond for some reason of the top of my head I remember it being about space Marines or something like that I'll Google it when I'm done replying to this
Ok I remember that show I liked it but it didn't last

(8,462 posts)War of the worlds. Another show that went bad with the last season but was fun while it lasted.
Wish we had 10 years of B5 though.

(56,582 posts)That and Firefly are about the only sci fi I can stand.

(56,582 posts)Babylon 5 fans seem to like it (I do). I could never get in to Star Trek, though I liked Blake's 7 and Firefly.

(29,414 posts)Did you get the 20th Anniversary book? It's a cool coffee-table type book with behind the scenes photos and design drawings. There was also a series of books written with interviews and more behind the scenes/designs of the show. Many, many funny stories of them all!

(2,670 posts)I really wonder why people seem to forget about Babylon 5.

(29,414 posts)That and there's only the one series, instead of four, no five, series with ST (Original, Next Gen, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise.) Plus there have been no theatrical movies released, only the movies made during the series, and the few "lost tales" and spinoffs. Oh how I wish TNT hadn't ruined Crusade! It would work on the current TNT, but only because they've finally figured out science fiction is popular. Old TNT was clueless.
There's a thread in the sci-fi group here I made earlier this year about the books. I think most of them are out of print, other than the ones on Crusade. That would be the same source to use for the anniversary book.
Also, look on youtube for a 20th anniversary gathering of most of the cast plus JMS. It's also hilarious, especially the story Jerry Doyle (MISTER Garibaldi!) tells about living with Andy (Andreas Katsulas.)

(2,670 posts)Tnt basically relied on bringing money in through their wcw wrestling thing back in the day. Now they're doing Sci fi and the Sci fi channel does wrestling wtf

(29,414 posts)Brand the channel designation and sell to the lowest common denominator (LCD.) While that does sell, it doesn't win awards, and awards sell even more than LCD. However, television/movie execs aren't known for having much in the way of foresight.
I think the anniversary show on YT takes place at the Phoenix comics convention, so that might come up in your search. I think it's about 80-minutes long, too

(2,670 posts)By the middle neither of us could be bothered to even watch. It turned into us basically doing our own version of MST3000 over the movie

(29,414 posts)There was one such movie I did watch about some kind of nano-tech being released and eating everything in its path. Stephen Furst played some weather station scientist in it. It was odd seeing him in one of those movies.

(2,670 posts)after a certain time. I mean I look at Netflix and most of the horror films I watch are old black and white films both silent and not. I also watch alot of the Italian horror movies from the 70s and a few 80s B movies. But besides when my girlfriend wants to see something there hasn't been anything to draw me to see a movie brand new in theaters.

(29,414 posts)Although I do have a friend that I go with to Sunday morning matinée showings. We like most of the superhero movies even though neither of us read comics (I used to read non-superhero comics, but it got too expensive or I lost interest.)
TCM is amazing in finding some of these off-the-wall movies most people have never heard of or sought. Such as Bunuel films, or obscure Japanese movies such as A Story of Floating Weeds.
See if you can find a copy of ReSearch magazine, the issue titled "Incredibly Strange Films" so you can find even more bizarre films to watch

(29,414 posts)Also look for a movie guide called "Psychotronic Films" (or "movies" but Psychotronic is correct.) I recall TV's Frank using that book when the Mads were looking up movies to torture Mike on the Satellite of Love

(29,414 posts)here's the web-based email I got from B5 Books. It's mostly to sell four limited-edition prints from the book, but also has a link at the bottom for ordering the anniversary book
