I scored an eight. Lower scores are better.

(10,575 posts)In June 2012, after 20 years of study of women with four cones (non-functional tetrachromats), neuroscientist Dr. Gabriele Jordan identified a woman (subject cDa29) who was able to detect a greater variety of colors than trichromatic ones, corresponding with a functional tetrachromat (or true tetrachromat).[14]

(53,410 posts)But as an artists I know online colors are very unreliable. And my work requires me to be looking at a monitor 98% of the time. Your eyes get tired and strained after hours a day reading what you're doing on the screen.
beemer27
(460 posts)I got frustrated half way thru this silly test, and hit submit. I got two of them partly done, and kept going back to make changes. It finally dawned on me that I was not going to get them right, not even close to right. In the future, I will leave the choice of colors to some one else. How many of us really need more than 16 color choices anyway?

(26,117 posts)I think having all the color spectra on the same page made it a little harder. My eyes started to feel tired.
That was fun - thanks for posting!

(26,117 posts)I wasn't happy with my score, so I tried again, this time doing the blue/green spectrum first (before my eyes got too tired).
I'm relieved, since I have an art degree.

(14,881 posts)Is it a continution of the right side of the row? Why do they even have an extra block that doesn't fit on row 1? I didn't know which block to put in row 2...
cyberswede
(26,117 posts)And the starting and ending blocks in each row were static, so the middle blocks were arranged to blend from the fixed block on one end to the fixed block on the other end.
The first time I did it, I missed a couple blocks in the 3rd spectrum, so when I did it again later, I completed the 3rd row first.
magical thyme
(14,881 posts)Each of my rows has 1 extra block that falls down to make a 2nd row within the spectrum. Somehow my screen isn't wide enough to fit all 22 blocks in a single row.
Oh, wait a minute. I just remembered I have my view set to 125 or 150% or so. I'll try shrinking it down and see if that works!
thanks!
craps. it didn't work. I still get 21 blocks in one row with the 22nd block below the row.
I'll never be able to get any row at 100% because I have an extra block in each row. this is really weird...

(38,316 posts)Seems all my investigations of color perception, photography, television, image compression, and frequent use of GIMP have paid off.
Strangely, I know my wife's perception of color is better than my own. I'm pretty sure she's a tetrachromat. It's not as good as what birds have, but it's better than most people.
Sadly trichromacy in humans is a wretched kludge. It's more like two-and-a-quarter-chromacy, not really trichromacy at all. Human color vision isn't that good. Our little fury ancestors crawling around in the dark managed to lose a few color receptors in their evolution. (Any creationists who uses human eyes as an example of God's creation is an idiot. Or maybe their God just comes to work drunk some days.)
A color television, color printing system, or image compression scheme adequate for humans would be completely inadequate if we saw colors as a bird does.
The four pigments in a bird's cones (in this example, estrildid finches)
extend the range of color vision into the ultraviolet.

(14,881 posts)Maybe I have a hard time following directions, but the 1st and last blocks are not fixed if you include the block in the 2nd row. Whenever I put that block into place, another block falls into the 2nd row. Is it supposed to be a continuation of the fixed block on the right or on the left?
I'm confused....
