I'm horrible with crosswords but my 81yo mom does them in pen.

Though she does complain about all the technology terms in use today in puzzles, and doesn't know what the internet is like (she used a green screen back in the 80s at work before retiring) she via puzzles knows quite a bit of Internet jargon and tech terms.

when I attended the American Crossword Puzzle Tourney in '98. So I know him mainly on a professional basis.

Re reviews: yeah, that's Rex Parker AKA Michael Sharp. Often a tough guy to please.

I've been doing NY Times Crosswords for over 40 yrs. I must have been a familiar sight on the morning subway. In my usual seat with paper folded and pen in hand.

I had the pleasure of meeting Margaret Farrar at a Crosswords Tournament years ago. She is a legend and we still observe her rules for construction and solving of the puzzles.

Margaret Farrar. A bit before my time, unfortunately. Although I have many of her old NYT crossword books.

I buy the Sunday paper just for the NYT crossword.
The Arizona Daily Star in Tucson has a Meryl Reagle puzzle on Thursdays. He's a good puzzler.

Congratulations -- even if it's not the highest height, providing that puzzle to the NYT must be
a real feather in your cap and a reason to step lightly and kick up your heels every once in a
while.

You seem to be up there at or near the height of your craft. Impressive, indeed.

or so says Republican Stepdad, who does them in pen.

R.S. actually buys the Times just for the puzzle. He reads the Post. Mom reads the Times and does the Poist puzzle.

Wait'll I tell R.S. that his puzzle was made by a DUer!!

He couldn't finish it, and passed it off to Mom. She's stumped, too.

If only I'd been there (I left Tuesday)...
