(20,176 posts)Same with The Tree of Life. When did "unwatchably confusing" become a synonym for deep and artistic?

(6,996 posts)It seemed to me that Tree Of Life was being told by a teenage boy who is dreaming (daydreaming?) about the existence of God and His creation of the heavens and Earth.
An example of that for me is in the reverie about the creation of the Earth the boy pauses during the Age Of the Dinosaurs to imagine an encounter between two fascinating creatures (typical of a teenager).
The film gets better with repeat viewings.

(3,065 posts)But it's definitely one that you have to watch more than once to understand it. It shows how six different "souls" interact with each other over several centuries and how history repeats itself.

(12,660 posts)It was all written as a diary, or as a verbal account of something that had happened, and the structure of the novel was such that if the movie followed the structure, the viewer would be completely lost.
The twisting of time in the story was necessary for the narrative. But you can't ask a passive viewing audience to sit through six individual stories that linked the way the book was written.

(2,480 posts)Call me crazy, but I always read those things before I watch a movie or read a book. I like to know what is going to happen - lol.

(8,217 posts)I just started watching Breaking Bad and I wanted to kick those guys who mentioned that some people ran a Walter White obituary.
I got quite upset, but mostly kept quiet.

(3,414 posts)That movie is now one of my all-time favorites. I thought it was brilliant, but I can understand how it would be confusing to someone who tried to watch it without an inkling of what the author of the book was trying to explain. Go to Amazon.com and read the reviews. That may help. And please give it another try, as understanding may come with repeated viewings. Hope this helps.
