(8,175 posts)Long before all the fancy tools and designs, like about 30 years ago, we had a contest at work...departments competing with other departments, so each team worked together to do the best, most innovative, fastest pumpkin to win.
I suggested "Jason from Friday the 13th". We came armed with some knives and a power drill...scored a line for the mask and cut eye holes, then blasted holes in it with a power drill to make it into a hockey goalie mask. We took first place just because it was fast and funny, and the shock effect from using a power drill! It was a blast. And we were done in just a couple of minutes. Every other group took at least 10 minutes to finish.

(11,816 posts)The orange pumpkin I did with a knife because I wanted the traditional sharp-edged look.
The white one -- power drill all the way.
Also a melon baller is a big help!
