...I remember ALL of the licks, but it's amazing how fresh they still sound today. I know a lot of the really classic solos were played by Larry Carlton...I need to do a little Googling and refresh my memory regarding who played the rest.

ON EDIT: Just took a look, Elliot Randall did the "Reelin'" solos.

to join Steely Dan among other bands but the only band he was ever an official member of was... Sha Na Na! He was Rocco for a couple of years in Sha Na Na.

He was on their 1996 abum "Arena." It was one of those "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" efforts. Original vocalist/bassist John Wetton was loing gone, and in his place was John Payne.

Guitar duties were split between Randall plus Aziz Ibrahim and Tomoyasu Hotei. The biggest problem during the Payne years was material...the band simply didn't come up with compelling or memorable songs. This album was no exception.

to hear anybody but David Gilmour play that would be like turning kindergartners loose on the Mona Lisa with Sharpies.

Problem with the ending solo is that it is so tightly COMPOSED, from the notes to the nuances, that hearing another guitarist tinker with it just doesn't work. Miss a note or put a bunch of extra ones in and you've lost me.

When I lived in Santa Clara, I used to take my iPod on my daily stress walk. One of the songs I had on it was the original studio version of "Light My Fire." I not only knew every note of Robbie Krieger's solo, I knew every note of Ray Manzarek's as well. for that reason, I never liked other versions of that song either...even if it was a live version by the Doors themselves.
