(4,544 posts)This is why I don't even do it any more. It helps if I tie it to the wall so they don't knock it over, but it's a lot of trouble.

(56,177 posts)I figure let them destroy this old one this year and get it out of their systems! The big gray is 2 years old, and he's taking more of an interest this year than last year!

(4,544 posts)Most of the older ones would still climb it, and the young one would wreak sheer havoc, I know! LOL

(56,177 posts)Scarlet would still eat the needles, but ignore it otherwise!

(3,275 posts)Thanks for the pictures. I used to put the same fake tree up in the living room. The two cats would lay under the tree for hours staring up at the lights. They never attempted to climb the tree. When I put presents under the tree, they would lay across them or hid underneath the stacks.

(3,709 posts)I had four kittens (yes...couldn't give them away) and when we put up the Christmas tree...let's just say they went crazy. They learned if they climbed all the way to the top, they could turn it over, and over, and over. I swear you could hear their little 'Wheeeees" of joy as the tree toppled, and they rode it down.
My ex- finally had enough... he went to the garage and came back with hammer, screws, and wire. Nails in a stud and wire around the trees. Kittens were not happy....

(56,177 posts)I put it back up and secured it...but they avoided it last night...doesn't sound like they enjoyed the roller coaster like yours did!

(21,789 posts)Growing up, my family had a real Douglas fir every Christmas, and the cat always slept under it.
It probably reminded the cat of a beautiful blue spruce we had near the front door. Probably thought the human guardians brought the blue spruce indoors for his pleasure.

(56,177 posts)but likes to hang out under there...I lost Scarlet on December 24th last year and right before her final cpouple days she would still go and sit under the tree....

(18,470 posts)When my sister brought her late fur kiddo Morgan home she'd head straight for the tree - it would be her favorite camping spot. Mainly because it gave her a nice, cozy place away from humans.

(56,177 posts)Something about trees...it's 40 degrees here, so they can't be looking for shade!

(18,470 posts)...all the activity got a little overwhelming sometimes and a safe, cozy place was her perfect antidote.
