SO: My blood pressure went from

151/105 on Oct 24th to

120/78 today.

My weight went from 210 lbs to 197 as well.

Wait for it:

I hate the word vegan, and have hated the whole philosophy for about the last 30 years..... but I bought the Engine 2 Diet book a year ago and finally went crazy on it on this last Oct 14th........The values above reflect just the diet.

I believe. Oh, yes I do.

No meat, eggs, milk products or (dammit) bacon. No added oils...although I am reintroducing them slowly.

I'm never hungry, don't miss the fat. OK - For the first three days I wanted to eat bacon wrapped in a pound of butter.

ONE more thing:

I am spending less on this food than I was on my meat-based diet. Much less.

I don't buy 'organic' I think that's a load of shit. I DO spend extra on food that is NON-GMO.

Y'all know me - I'm not a joiner and pretty much mock anything that rests outside my cynical, hostile world view......I thought the vegan claims were a sales rap.

I will tell you, the claims made in the book seem to be absolutely true.

As usual, YMMV......

Many years ago I tried the vegan way of eating. While I enjoyed it I was often looking for something to satisfy the munchies.

It may be possible to fix a lot of health problems with diet. You mentioned high blood pressure and being overweight. I've also seen people control type 2 diabetes through dietary changes and weight loss.

I'm a big fat guy and I eat meat, but apparently I have blood vessels the size of the Alaskan oil pipeline. No problems with high blood pressure or sugar. But I am losing weight because I'm sure I won't live problem free for the rest of my life at this weight. At the very least I'll have joint problems.

I've lost about 25 pounds recently through eating less and cutting out a lot of sugar. I used to eat about 1000 calories worth of donuts every morning. Just cutting that out and not replacing those calories probably allowed me to drop 2 pounds a week.

His doc was pushing statins for a cholesterol reading of 204 ( 200 is the new cut off scale, used to be 240 until Pharma invented statins)
anyhow, all he did was add oatmeal to his diet 3x a week and eat raw carrots and apples and celery as snacks, about one servinig each, 4-5 times a week.
that was all.
did not cut anything else out.
No meds.

Dropped down to 173 in 6 months, and 164 now at last checkup a month ago.
He, who did not believe that diet affects health, is still stunned.

I neener a lot to him..

I had heard about oatmeal being helpful and I'm sure the fresh fruits and vegies worked too.

I'm going to try that.

about 1 cup cooked...which is not a lot.
I was amazed to see how such a little change could produce such dramatic results so quickly.
But have the test results which say it indeed works.

And his other blood work markers improved too...HDL, etc.

I refuse to take statins and my total cholesterol was through the roof at 311 last August, but with a very high
good cholesterol component.

Doc told me to take 2000 mg of fish oil every day (1 pill twice a day) and I just got
back the results from 3 months on that regimen: total cholesterol down to 240--still high
good cholesterol component.

He wants me to add a third pill--3000 mg of fish oil every day--and we'll see what difference
that makes in 3 months.

I eat a mostly vegetarian diet. Partly because it is cheaper and I'm trying to save money right now. I have never really liked bacon so giving that up is really easy.

Congratulations on the weight loss and lower blood pressure.
