eBay sellers - a question

I was thinking of selling a few things on eBay, but saw that they charge a fee of 10% of the final price. Is that correct? That seems rather steep to me. I haven't sold on eBay since the late 90s or early 00s, but I thought it was way cheaper back then?

1. My experience is that it is worth it. You have access to so many potential bidders

that you are likely to get what the item is worth. The overhead is probably more selling at a flea market. Good luck.

I sold smalls for $10-$50, mostly at the $10 end, so with the fees and the shipping, it wasn't worth it. If most of my items were at the top end, I would still be selling.

It still amazes me.

And I have learned to trust the marketplace. If it's good, it will go.

Always got more than I really expected, certainly more than listing locally and having to put up with tire kickers and unreasonable folks looking for a deal. 10% is worth it.

Tasmania, remote Siberia, Singapore, everywhere. It was kind of fun. I only accepted checks and money orders then, and never once had a bad payment. Of course eBay was like a money tree then. Wake up in the morning and see what you earned while you were asleep. Pretty damn cool.

maternity clothing, baby clothing, etc ...

I did really well 5-10 years ago reselling gently used and new items. Once wholesalers got involved and the market dropped it got harder.

If you are selling or re-selling higher end items it helps w/the fees and postage (paypal fees too - and lots of folks like to use that service because it's easier/faster).

Now I will sell maybe once a year if I have some high-end clothing, shoes and accessories that are in excellent shape or new. Other than that it's not really worth the time.

we had bought an iPad mini recently at a discount, but decided to return it. A friend of my wife's criticized her and said we could have made more money selling it on eBay instead of returning it. However, if they're taking 10% off the top, that's $30 on a $300 iPad mini.

and with older electronics I sometimes sell back to Gamestop now. I remember re-selling palm pilots on eBay years ago & that went fine. But these days between eBay/paypal fees (along with higher postage fees as well) you've really got to think through using eBay. It's not the market it was 10-15 years ago.

I sold Pfaltzgraf that way and some did fine while some larger bowls broke during shipment (I used bubble wrap etc.) If it is small pieces in excellent condition and you wrap really well it should go ok for you. You're right that eBay is great for collectors because you can see what the items are going for, etc...

Looking at the prices the pieces i have are selling in the thousands so i am not to bothered about the shipping cost.
