Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWhat will be the next big fantasy/"SciFi"/horror movie genre?
We've done (and are still doing) vampires.
We've done (and are still doing) werewolves.
We've done (aasd) werewolf/vampire combos.
Now we're in a mega-zombie phase.
All zombie, all the time, everywhere.
Is it time for a Frankenstein resurrection?
(Pun intended.)
Or are robots due for a reboot?
What's your prediction on the next big fantasy/SciFi/horror thing?
a/k/a the republican platform.
It's a genre that practically writes itself nowadays...

(66,380 posts)I'd like to see a movie series based on the Elric saga.
I don't think there's ever been a rendition of the stories in a visual medium before.

(66,380 posts)And no one has ever made a movie about him. They made a movie about a D-level superhero (Green Lantern), and people stayed away in droves. Why not make a movie about a character that has a built-in audience? Maybe not as large an audience as for Harry Potter or Lord Of The Rings, but still, a dedicated audience of Elric fanboys.

(4,138 posts)It might be that the intersection between people who like fantasy action movies and people who like movies about self-loathing, moody, introspective drug addicts isn't enough to make money. Of course, the same could be said of Game of Thrones, and that's making tons of money. I'd watch it for sure though.

(66,380 posts)I'd say:
Elric =/= Conan
Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones =/= Tolkien and Tolkien derivatives

(145,288 posts)The vampire sword is always a winner.
No.
Probably end-of-days dystopia. Future-date, a world short of resources and racked by resource-wars, people dying en-mass, a love story among the ashes and because this has Michael Bay written all over it, a lot of gratuitous nudity and explosions. Lord knows the world cannot end without the visible nipples of an ingenue and a fiery collapsing global-landmark.

(8,217 posts)They did Pacific Rim which is about Large Robots. This one was pretty cool. Kaiju!!!!!
Others mentioned that they are doing an I, Frankenstein. This one looks REALLY BAD, god-awful, bad CG.
Someone mentioned Chtulhu. I would be interested in seeing that too.
If I had to guess, what would be interesting and may be a big hit would be:
Mutants. A new X-Men is coming.

(21,925 posts)who are torn in twenty different directions by ridiculously overblown drama in their lives and who are constantly trading digs against each other or trying to get the chance to cheat on each other. And I hope we've seen an end to the hillbilly cannibal movies featuring unpleasant young people getting stranded in the woods inhabited by degenerate mutants and picked off one by one. Unless maybe it's a comedic spoof of a hillbilly cannibal horror movie.

(21,925 posts)The Pale Lady (La Dame Pale) by Alexandre Dumas was one of the first vampire oriented works of fiction, predating Carmilla and Dracula. It's a vampire love triangle (one of two princes courting the beautiful pale lady is one of the undead) set in the Carpathians and is very atmospheric, romantic, dark, and gothic. What Twilight could have been if it had been well-written.

(6,251 posts)and avoids Weber's somewhat conservative politics (no where near as conservative as Orson Scott Card and only mildly mentioned within the books), I think that it could be a good series.
The difficulty will be in finding a six foot tall Asian or part-Asian woman with command presence and acting skills!
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)She has a screen presence and can probably be made to look a bit taller with shoes and camera angles.
No idea of the character and age, though. (Liu Yifei is also 5'7" - she was in Forbidden Kingdom for a reference)
If they can have 5'8" Mel Gibson playing 6 1/2 foot tall William Wallace, why not?

(56,828 posts)Some guy said that Wallace was supposed to be 7 feet tall - and, Wallace (Gibson) responded that he could also kill the English with fireballs out of his ass or something like that. (or was it lightning bolts)
Gibson is a good actor and been in a lot of good movies, but he's f-ed up outside of acting.
