You could fall in love with the cat and suffer severe separation issues.

Call your local no-kill and ask if they need any cat socialization volunteers. If (when?) they say yes, you get to play with kittens for free.

I so want to take them home. Then I struggle all night wondering if they would be happy here. Or are they better off somewhere else. I actually find it stressful on the whole. Not relaxing at all to be constantly thinking can I make the commitment to a kitten. So I don‘t know why I always stop in t that store. Except that I love kitties.

We have two.
They drop in, hang out a while, sleep, do their cat thing, then go home.
We don't have to bother with cat food, kitty litter, vet bills, etc.

Be ambitious they said. You can always sell cats they said. Don't take no for an answer. Just throw some in a bag and get your foot in the door. It was a nightmare.
