We are in the middle of an ice storm in Oklahoma. I am cat sitting for a friend but I am concerned about my own house. I just remembered that I forgot to drip my bathroom faucet and leave the cabinet door open (as long as the house has power it is never a problem with the bathroom). However, if my house loses power it will be a major problem and it may be a few days before I will be able to get back over and check it.
On the bright side, the house I am cat sitting at has an emergency generator backup so I won't freeze if this house loses power. I will just lose internet and phone access (one of the rare times that I might regret not having a cell phone). I am charging up everything I have with me.
I hope that my fellow DUers from Oklahoma are all making it through this storm ok!

(14,910 posts)Your current weather will be ours in a few hours.
Unfortunately, we do not have a backup power source and I have a 250 gallon saltwater tank that needs cirruclation and heat to stay stable.
Hopefully someone can check in on your house for you. Hopefully a good neighbor will volunteer...
Good luck!
Stay safe!

(6,151 posts)My dream is to have a big backup generator, but so far no luck. We're really blessed that this tiny speck of a town has its own generator plant - I guess because it's the county seat - and the rare times we do lose electrical power, it doesn't last long. My heating system, fortunately, doesn't go out at those times the way many furnaces do. And I just got my propane tank filled, so if the trucks can't get through I'm okay there. Much as propane scares me, it's still far more economical here and at least I did manage to locate the tank quite a bit away from the house. I see people with big lots and a tank still nestled up against the house. Not worth the risk.
