But I hate my neighbors. They're all setting off fireworks outside and it bothers both my cat and dad. So I have to give my dad extra valium and keep my cat calm

used to have a lab cross that would freaking chase and bite them, she was a crazy party dog. fearless. would bring her dish for beer handouts and was relentless untill she got some too.

(28,394 posts)Then I was so damn mad, I couldn't fall asleep. The pretentious show-off has to constantly make a spectacle of himself. "Look at me!"

(70,744 posts)"events" being a club, live music, dancing, drinking. And this wasn't more than a few times over many years. As the superstitions and rituals receded for me, it became an all days being equal thing. So there's no way to avoid the public hoopla, but I nose my way through it, partaking with one-to-one personal interactivities of a bit of fellowship, but not in the gigantic displays. And then, in general, I fail to grasp house-or-yard bashes on the grounds that one's home is to be respected, not to be turned into a bawdy site (and using "bawdy" just for the rowdiness, not "sex" .
Two years ago, the tenants at the corner, who were new to this quiet, residential street, had a few parties for football that were pretty bad, but they outdid themselves for that New Year's, with the bellowing plus D.J., lasting until 6 A.M. I let that pass because Grinch/NewYears/youknow. But finally a couple of months later they had another one, still not so bad as the 6 A.M. one, but I called the fuzz and don't actually know if the fuzz stopped by, but it was over soon after and they haven't had a big rowdy thing ever since.
To be clear, it's not just grouchy me. The rest of the street is totally quiet, absolutely nobody even outside.

(14,881 posts)Things have finally settled down around here, but the first year after our teabagger gov. made them legal, it was a nightmare.
The same 2 neighbors still set them off every so often. I almost got trampled when the closest one set off a bunch in his front yard right when I had just brought my filly in for dinner. She spun around and bolted out of the barn, my 2 dogs took off in a panic (my lab-x in particular fears them) and I was running around in circles trying to round everybody up.
Move to the country for peace and quiet and nature, only to get treated to random explosions. Not fun. Not appreciated.
