(1,296 posts)Ohhh...must have been in the early 90's or so. It really wasn't long after I was in a record store (remember those???) and I picked up her LP: "Shadowland" and brought it home and was blown away by her voice. At that time, she really wasn't well known at all...and I started telling my friends...have you ever heard of k d lang? She's like a Patsy Cline reincarnation...only better!
I know her popular CD "Ingenue" garnered her some well deserved recognition. I sure would like to hear more from her on the local radio stations!

(8,646 posts)was at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, where she sings Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. I'd put a link to a video but all the youtube ones are gone. Here's the one at the Junos instead:
My parents went to one of her shows way back when she was just a young woman from Consort. My dad came home and said that this person they saw in the club tonight was going to be a star. He was right.

I just watched that...AWESOME! k d ought to be collaborating with some of the folks on Broadway, NYC! She would Bring The House DOWN EVERY NIGHT!!!!
Talent like hers should never be hidden!!!! She needs to get out there and be heard (again) already!!!!
Here is another one of my favorites of hers:
There is a better, longer version with orchestra in the background...but I can't seem to find it right now in my multitude of bookmarks.
(If I find it, I'll post it.)
I have the biggest crush on k d...

(3,818 posts)I bought that version on iTunes right after that, then it disappeared. They no longer offer that version. Fortunately I had put it on a back-up CD because somehow they removed it from my iPod touch too.

(193 posts)I went and had to listen to Constant Craving, which was fabulous.
So I had to go and read the Wikipedia page to see if I had missed anything along the way. There was an interesting story about a Rolling Stones song that the chorus sounded very like Constant Craving. Mick's daughter had been listening to CC and he had heard it in the background. Gave k.d. lang songwriting credit for the new tune. So I had to go and watch the video for the new song, which had a very new, very before-she-was-a-superstar Angelina Jolie as a stripper with a shaved head.
What a fun trek around the Interwebs I had this morning. Thank you!

I think I'll go take a cold shower now...
Those were awesome!
I remember the first time I saw here on Austin City Limits performing: "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray"
I was hooked!

(34,137 posts)I really liked him in the series and a movie he was in, "Getting Married in Buffalo Jump" was on one of the movie channels. I really liked some of the music in the movie and it turned out that those songs were performed by k.d. lang.
No local stores ever have her CDs, so listening on YouTube has allowed me to hear her work. (I kinda have a rule against ordering music online since I always blow my budget when I do.)
Thanks for the "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray" - I can see how that one would hook you!

(1,296 posts)Just wondering - Has PBS ever included her in their "American Masters" series? If not, they surely ought to!!!
