The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI did something so shameful this weekend I wouldn't blame some of you to take away my DU Cool points
I rented "Breakdawn Dawn pt. 1" this weekend
Mind you, I've seen the first 2 twilight movies but only because I had some family wanting to see it after Thanksgiving dinner (first 2 were released over thanksgiving weekend). The first Twilight movie wasn't so bad but the second one I barely remember since I think I feel asleep halfway thru the movie. But since the 3rd movie "Breakdawn Dawn pt. 1" was released during the summer, I just skipped it.
But I saw a preview and they showed the wedding and I thought "Maybe I'd like to watch this - the wedding looks beautiful". Well that was $5.99 wasted (since I rented from On-Demand in HD).
First, I'm really over this angst female acting. Neve Campbell was the first to do it with her years on "Party of Five" but honestly it grew tiresome. Kristen Stewart's constant angst looked more like she was sitting on the toilet dealing with a bad case of constipation. Thing is, I also saw 'The Runaways' and she does that same type of acting there too. She better pray the keep making "Twilight" movies because her career is heading towards a successful run of bad Lifetime movies.
But what is worse about this movie is just how wretchedly they have destroyed the legend of the Vampires. Throughout the generations there have been dozens upon dozens of Vampire movies & tv shows. And one thing that is consistant is the rules of a vampire that you would find in most of these movies & TV shows. Vampires cannot go out in the dark. Vampires must drink blood. Vampires sleep underground. Vampires cannot tolerate religious icons like the Cross or Holy water. And even when they stray from some of these rules, such as True Blood where Bill did a lecture in a church in the presence of a cross, he explained how some of these legends were created to protect vampires. But what Twilight does to vampires is just an absolute JOKE. They sparkle? Now you have these hideously pale people out in the daylight. PLUS, Vampires are considered dead and yet they can get humans pregnant now? Really? THat's just getting ridiculous. Basically the entire movie was a wedding, vampire sex and Bella trying to keep a blood sucking fetus alive even though it was killing her. All why she gave her constant constipation grunts.
Then there are the werewolves. I about pissed myself laughing watching a bunch of badly animated fake wolves 'talking' to one another even though their mouths didn't move. Really? You're a wolf you can't talk. It would have looked better if they would have just come out of werewolf mode and then chatted about how they were going to kill Bella's unborn baby but to keep it PG rated they decided to keep them in wolfs and just talk as wolfs. It was just awful. And that Taylor Lautner's acting skills weren't much better than Kristen Stewarts. Lautner has a future career as a Colgate White Strips Teeth model.
Robert Patterson was probably the only one with some decent acting credibility although not by much. I did see "Water for Elephants" and he was actually pretty decent in it. Rumor has it that the studio that owns the Twilight franchise wants to keep cranking out Twilight movies even though this book series was only a triology (Twilight, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn - which the studio broke that into 2 movies so they could milk more money out of it). If Patterson wants a chance at an acting career he needs to put is foot down and walk away after the 2nd part of Breaking Dawn is finished.

(5,909 posts)I couldn't even get through the first one. I am so over this Twilight BS. So many Moms in my neighborhood are so freaking into it and never read a book in their lives except for the Twilight series. I totally agree with you about Kristen Stewart, although I have to say she wasn't bad in "Adventureland" which was a good movie, imo.
I love vampire flicks, am a huge True Blood Fan, like Rob Pattinson but cannot bring myself to watch another Twilight movie.

(41,991 posts)Vampires are about sex. Always have been. Forbidden lust, the mystery of life and death and the deeply taboo. It's not My Little Pony for passive, weak-minded adolescent girls and their mothers who want to believe their daughters would put up with incredible physical abuse but save themselves for marriage and then decide to have the baby that is clearly killing them because life is, ya know, sacred.
The whole thing gives me the epizootic.

Wasn't as good as watching Sookie & Eric getting it on - that's for sure!

(20,277 posts)so we don't have to.
I think turning Anne Rice's vampires loose on them would be a good thing. They would make mincemeat out of the Twilight 'vampires'.

(34,137 posts)I almost wrote "revitalize vampires" but that is just wrong.
Even though I was not a "Dark Shadows" fan as a teenager, I'm very tempted to go see the movie in a theater. Johnny Depp as Barnabas has got to be either really good or horrendously bad.
