If I were to grow catnip in the yard, I realize it might attract cats, but will it also make them too sloppy stupid to hunt?

(28,394 posts)It is their natural instinct. I haven't seen cats go for green growing catnip, just the dried. Believe me, I tried that.

(60,010 posts)They actually prferred to sleep on and under it, eventually they had the bushy plant flattened.
I never saw them eating it, but they did like the dried plant.

(115,836 posts)The cats will probably nap a little after they come down, but overall their hunting capabilities will not be significantly impaired. However, they might enjoy the catnip enough to be distracted from stalking birds.
I grow catnip in my yard for the purpose of attracting the neighbors' cats (my own stay indoors), in order to keep the rabbits away from my garden. It does seem to work.
