I'm surrounded by Fox News koolaid-drinkers at work.

I'm sick of it.

They were complaining about the fact that Obama was "whining" (their word, not mine) that Fox tells lies about him (or whatever it was he was, in my opinion, rightfully complaining out.

When I pointed out that, yes, Fox News, does tell a lot of lies, not just about Obama, they said that "well, all the other stations are just as bad, only from the opposite side." A position that is demonstrably false. And then went on to spout talking about about the ACA.

My problem is that I am not good at arguing. I can't marshal my facts when I need then, so I sit fuming instead.

So I've resolved to always change the subject. And, furthermore, I am not socializing with these people in any way. I'm going out to lunch with any of them ever again. And I will listen to my headphones if I am in the car with them (if i am not driving). I've had enough. Stupid morons are ruining this country.

I'm hoping soon to move to Northern Virginia, where I know I will find people like me, and get away from stupid redneck moron country for good.

5. Besides, Jim Jones used Flavor Aid

a competing brand of powdered drink mix.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavor_Aid#Jonestown_Massacre

The drink became inextricably linked to the Jonestown Massacre when it was learned that the cyanide poison taken by or forcibly administered to the commune's members was placed in Flavor-Aid. Large barrels filled with the grape variety, laced with the cyanide and a variety of tranquilizer drugs, were found half-consumed amidst the hundreds of bodies. For an unknown reason, Kool-Aid rather than Flavor-Aid is almost always mentioned in connection with the Massacre, this factual error even spawning catchphrases (e.g. 'Don't drink the Kool-Aid' being a slang admonition not to trust charismatic people). Film of Jonestown many months before the Massacre show stocks of both Flavor-Aid and its leading competitor within the commune's storehouses, so it is quite possible that both drinks were used as carriers for the poison.

3. I feel for you. I cannot believe how many dumb, stupid, idiotic people

there are in this country.

I weep for the lost opportunity of television to educate and inform the public.
Instead it's used to disseminate propaganda.

If we lose the internet, we're done for.

9. My inclination at this point is just to stop arguing with them

It never gets us anywhere to engage them.

But then I'm left seething when something comes up and I can't counter.

I'm somewhat ashamed of my inclination to flee to a place where I'm not surrounded by them. If everybody did that, we'd all be off in our own separate worlds. Which I guess we already do.

But, in my personal life, I do have friends who feel as I do, who are also outnumbered in this small, very religious, very conservative town. One of whom writes a column for the local fish-wrap and pissed people off on a weekly basis. I wish I had that courage.

So I just have to tolerate these fools at work and then go complain with my friends down at the local watering hole.
