I really wanted to boycott the Olympics but in the end I watched

It sucks because for me I love the winter Olympics much more than the summer. Ever since Eric Heiden won those 5 gold medals at Lake Placid I was hooked.

As much as I wanted a full-out boycott of the Olympics I knew how devastating that can be to the Athletes who train hard and prefer not to be pawns in these things. It was disappointing to have the 1980 Summer Olympics boycotted and I would hate to see that again.

I will say that I have enjoyed these Olympics more because instead of watching NBC Primetime - where they only showcase the US athletes and a few of the key events that instead I watch it on the website where they show all of the athletes. Yesterday I enjoyed watching the Ski Jumping team event, something that would never get prime time coverage since the US sucks at Ski Jumping and the Ice Dancing.

Canada fell to third seed because the Finns took them to OT the other day. Which means we would have to play them in a semifinal game.

You got to BEAT the best to BE the best....

And I don't want any "yeah, but..." excuses if the USA wins gold without having to face Canada because of some fluke loss...

There is nobody on Team USA or Team Canada that hasn't played with or against everybody on the other squad. There's no surprises there.

The Russians...most of that team is from the KHL and I don't buy for a minute the consensus-thinking that the NHL is the vastly superior professional league. There's some real talent on that Russian team and, as an unfamiliar opponent, surprises. We knocked off Russia...that was the squad that concerned me. The Olympics is always a hockey crapshoot anyways...there's a goalie on every squad capable of getting hot and locking-down the gold medal.

The US has just as much of a chance as Canada but so do the Czechs and the Finns.

In fact, I saw some of the USA's domination of Sweden in women's hockey yesterday. It's an interesting take on the sport. No body checking is allowed, which leads to lots of skating, passing, and shooting, especially by the Americans, who finished with an outrageous 70 shots on goal. In fact, Sweden pulled their goalie in the second period even though she was playing well, just because she got tired facing all those shots!

I'll be glued to the Gold Medal game on Thursday...

We haven't taken gold since Nagano ('98), but we look really good this time around, ass long as we can stay out of the penalty box.

Nice to see you on DU. And it was the Swedes who had trouble staying out of the sin bin the other day.

2 of their 3 goals were on power-plays...

If we can play clean, we've got this!!!

Especially the Summer Olympics. They are always on right in the middle of the damn presidential race. It's like going to a boxing match and having to watch bunny rabbits for two weeks. I'd rather have my toes lit on fire.

It's like trying to watch all 500 cable channels you have in 3 weeks or less. Too cluttering.

But something about the Winter Olympics was just relaxing and enjoyable. Skiing, Sledding and Skating. If you think about it all the sports are related to one of those 3 things. I always felt like I could truly enjoy the event without being overwhelmed

winter, but I do like the winter Olympics.

Especially the figure skating. Singles. Couples.

There was a couple the other night that did a program to "Swan Lake". It was absolutely beautiful. I get all teary-eyed watching some of them. Frustrated ambitions...I always wanted to be a figure skater, but just didn't have the strength or balance for it.

So I figure skate in my head.

And the snowboard races are exciting!

Only one thing that bothers me about the figure skating, though. Here I am freezing my ass off in my nice warm house dressed in sweatpants, long sleeved top and sweater, and those poor women are out there on the ice skating around in skimpy little outfits.

Oh, and my OCD...some of them are in outfits with one sleeve.

Wrong. Either no sleeves or two long sleeves. Not one long and one non-existent.

aughhhh
