Hotel recs requested for Maryland ---

between Columbia and Timonium - affordable (under $100, preferably) and CLEAN in a safe area.

Any suggestions? Just for one night ... there are a lot of Hamptons, Sheratons, La Quintas, etc. Wondering if anyone has any input, good or bad. Away from any airport traffic, if possible.

Thanks!

And ditto for the lower end Marriott brands (Fairfield and Courtyard)

The last couple years I had a Hotel card for the car haul job I had and stayed in hotels 3 to 4 nights a week. Give me all the major, around $100/night brands in one area and I'll choose in the following order;

Courtyard by Marriott
Hampton Inn (these first two because of their breakfasts, among other things)
Fairfield by Marriott
Holiday Inn Express
Holiday Inn (Holiday Inn has gone on a re-vamping campaign, adding restaurants and bars BACK into many of their properties)
Hilton Garden Inn
Wingate by Windham

Any more I deliberately avoid;
Days Inns
Super 8
Most Comfort Inn properties (includes Sleep Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, Econolodge and Rodeway Inns.)

Granted, most of this second group generally have rack rates well below the $100 mark

If you were traveling further south, I could give you recommendations for specific properties, but I didn't do too much traveling in Maryland the last few years.

Edit here; Many of the "Suite" hotels will have rates in the range you're looking for. Check out Springhill Suites and Towneplace Suites by Marriott, Staybridge and Candlewood Suites, both in the Holiday Inn/IHG brand group and Homewood Suites by Hilton. They offer usually HUGE rooms with fridges and stoves. I realize you said only one night, but you may find a deal! Best of luck and happy travels.

we used to stay in Hampton Inns a lot, but sometimes they venture into the $125+ range; Courtyard seems to relatively regularly hover around $100.

You pretty much listed the ones I'm familiar with / feel like guests won't walk away with bedbugs or other unsavories.

Appreciate it!

With regard to room rate. Often, just by simply asking that question, I've gotten rates dropped from $125 to $99, for instance.
