I am so confused, I'm not even sure I'm doing this right. I just got my starter kit yesterday and honestly I don't know if I'm supposed to inhale or keep the vapor in my mouth or how many times I should be using this (how much is normal) and why whenever I see a video on vaping there is so much more vapor coming out of their noses and mouths than comes out of mine. I don't even have as much vapor as I would cig smoke.
I got 18mg nicotine which was recommended to me based on my cig brand but I have had to turn the intensity on the battery down quite a bit because it tasted terrible and was making me cough.
I am not quitting smoking yet - I need to get a handle on what I am doing first. I have reduced from 20 cigs to 4 cigs today which is good but I feel like I am having a bit of a rough start adjusting to this - though I am willing to give this time.

(2,750 posts)I started with a cheap one (Blu) which aggravated me enough to go back to cigarettes. Eventually I purchased a Joye-Ego that satisfied the lust They hit well and don't leak liquid. The battery lasts all day for me as well.
As far as frequency of use, hit it when you need it. Anything is better than Philip Morris chemical sticks. The taste thing is not even in the same stratosphere. That is probably the hardest part to get over.

(8,171 posts)The battery has worked since yesterday afternoon, I haven't charged it yet.
I guess I am just not getting the hang of it yet. Yesterday it made me dizzy when it was on 4.0 (volts?) and I turned it down to 3.4. Also when it was at 4.0 it tasted really bad and I couldn't get the smell out of my nose. At the 3.4 it tastes better.
When I am using it I only take a couple puffs maybe every 1.5 to 2 hours. I think I am using it that frequently because I don't puff on it as long as I would a cigarette. Not sure.
Thanks for your help, I'll just keep plugging away to see how this will work.

(2,750 posts)Does it have a "clearomizer" on it?
I had troubles with getting dry vaps on one of those. Does it have a burnt cotton taste sometimes? If so there is a remedy but it requires surgery to the clearomizer itself. Be warned, you can ruin it.
You can also turn the e-cig up a bit to saturate the wick. Kind of twist and turn it a bit while tipping it back then hit it.
And this is what turns quite a few away from these devices. They can be a pain in the ass until you get one that works for you

I think the reason it's so easy to make the switch is that the ecig can be so much more delicious! Chocolate mint, blackberry, cinnamon roll...when I lit up my last cig, it was disgusting by comparison! I put it out after two puffs, and reached for my itaste.

Didn't bother me

(24,146 posts)not sure what kind of getup your using, but i have to puff a few times on mine to really get it going. it also helps to have it slightly tilted.
as far as frequency of use, puff on it as much as you need. i'm just over two weeks in and i i'm hitting mine on a regular basis.
good luck to you!

(45,099 posts)I bought 3 different flavors to start. Just puff on it all you need to. I inhaled all the time at first. I started on the 18 and am down to zero nicotine now. I puff once in a while but don't inhale, in fact I may only pick it up once or twice a day. Good luck, it really does help if you try different flavors and pick out a few you like.

(8,171 posts)first 4 tasted exactly the same to me but I think it was because I had gum in my mouth. I finally settled on peppermint mocha and clove. I should have bought an extra tank so I could switch out flavors.

(45,099 posts)I bought 2 tanks to begin with. When I went down to the zero nicotine I bought a new tank so I wouldn't have any nicotine residue. Using this was so easy to break my mental habit. I bought my kit and smoked my last cigarette Jan 31 and was on the zero nicotine by the middle of Feb. When I went to the zero nicotine I had no withdrawals or irritability at all. Keep at it, you will succeed.

(2,302 posts)I'm about nine weeks in and it's been a learning curve. I suggest you join the ECF, the Electronic Cigarette Forum, where dozens of folks can help you with every question you have.
The draw is a little different, but you'll get used to it. Inhale, hold for a bit, and exhale, just like with a real cig. You may find you use it for longer, or more often than you would've smoked, and that is normal - the nicotine absorption rates are different. The liquid is very dehydrating, so make sure to up your water intake! As far as the quantity of smoke, you may have been looking at ads where people don't actually inhale the smoke, which does reduce what comes out. It also depends on the mix of liquids; PG gives flavor and throat hit (and sometimes throat irritation), while VG gives lots of smoke. You'll find a good mix and some good flavors and you'll be on your way!
I never planned to quit, but I did just that in 5 days...and I smoked 1 1/2 packs for over 50 years.

(8,171 posts)looking for this morning:

I am also the guinea pig for someone else so I'll be the one making all the mistakes
I have not yet found the right balance to completely quit and I don't want to over-focus on this because the last time I quit I became obsessive - reading websites and counting how many cigs I did not smoke and how much money I did not spend. Spent too much of my brain time on cigs, which made me want them even more. Hopefully this will be a more natural way of quitting.

(2,302 posts)You'll hit that sweet spot where the vaping becomes more enjoyable than a cigarette. You'll light one up, take a puff...and GROSS OUT.
But I know what you mean about over-obsessing, believe me! And if you were going cold-turkey, I know you'd be thinking about it much of the time, too.
I am about to try using a cartomizer to replace the clearomizer I've used since starting, but I asked a lot of questions first and started with an inexpensive one someone suggested. I get what they call "vape tongue" frequently, meaning I have a "dead" tongue, and can't taste flavors very well. Drinking lots, not just water, but flavored iced teas, seems to help a bit.
I wish you lots of luck, and never feel that you have to go it alone, or worry about "doing it wrong." Every cig you don't smoke gets you there!
