VIZIO TV-Both of ours died after allowing them internet access...-Unfrickinbelievable

At least I have the interwebs...

But last night I finally set up the 2 flat screen TV's to watch Netflix. Had them over a year without issues but I had not entered the encryption key to get on the net. I got both TV's working on Netflix after a bit of fiddling & thought I had done a good thing...

This AM-No response from TV-black scree w/logo-have to unplug to get it to shut off. No response to on board controls or remote.
Find both TV's are having the same problem. Called Vizio-Was told it is updating & to wait.

Same thing so I call back-turns out the update damaged the "prom" and they would send a repair person out-in a week.

Seeing the set is just out of warranty I'll take it-but fer freaks sake-how do you break a persons TV just by updating it?. And I'm pretty sure they are very aware of the issue & trying to avoid a class-action lawsuit.

So-just a warning...

Don't buy Vizio

And if you already own one-Don't let it anywhere near the internet!!

Computers, computer components, phones, DVD / Bluray players, TVs. Anything that has a chip that can be updated with new firmware is susceptible to being bricked.

Had no idea-I'm from the "get off my lawn" demographic....
And it is just so re-assuring(sarc)that this can happen...

And it really makes me glad I drive a 72 VW Bus . With points I can set & a spare coil/distributor solves just about any electrical issue.
Seriously-as an nuts/bolts guy this is progress?

Wish I had not donated my CRTV.

I'm not sure of the model number but it's a smaller (32", remember when that was as big a TV as you could get?) one that I had hardwired to my network and internet since I brought it home last year.

I wonder if yours missed a few updates while offline and then Vizio tried to force the lasted one as soon as you plugged it in without going in sequence and it screwed up the board?

And I was hoping the new flat screens we bought last year would work for that.

As I posted above-I'm a little flabberghasted by the fact this can occur at all...Friggin progress my arse.
