The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumsweek three of no cigs and today was a rough one
battery in the pen died (yeah, need a backup), so had to make do with some nicotine gum. it took a bit to kick in, but it got me through a visit with the buddy who smokes inside.
i feel like i post too much about it here, but i don't get much support irl and you guys have been awesome. told a co-worker yesterday how far i'd made it and his only response was to tell me he'd only be impressed if i weren't using the pen. i have a few people cheering me on, but nothing like you guys.
i'm really proud of myself for doing something i didn't think i could do.

(153,169 posts)you're doing the right thing - instead of smoking, you're using a nicotine replacement and venting - WELL DONE - you know, those cravings seem like they last a long time but they really don't......and you are going to notice fewer and fewer cravings as you handle these crises without that health-compromising crutch.......WELL DONE!!!
N.O.P.E. <--------- NOT ONE PUFF EVER!!!

(24,146 posts)things are rough right now and i was near tears getting through it, but i did it. i could have easily bummed a smoke, but i'll take the discomfort over throwing away the effort i've put into this.

You however sound like you're ready. Good for you. It can't be easy.
I have lost 70 lbs since August. I knew I needed to for a long time, just wasn't ready until then. He will get there some day.

(118,696 posts)been quit almost 6 years and I never crave a smoke. Even when I walk by somebody smoking. One of the best things I ever did getting rid of the 'mokes.

(3,065 posts)Using both pen and patch.
I made the decision that a cigarette will never again touch my lips. When you actually say those words out loud it's very reaffirming.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)it's a thought i've had plenty of times, just haven't said it out loud yet.
Mr.Bill
(24,303 posts)you are one cigarette away from being a smoker again. As every day goes by you will be tempted less and less. But it's a long process. I quit 12 years ago and I still think of it occasionally.
Best of luck to you.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)i'm really not interested in being a smoker again. i'm feeling better than i have in a long time but i don't expect the thoughts to ever fully go away

(60,010 posts)In the early days of quitting it would have been too tempting
in the later days of quitting it simply stank to high heaven.
I found I was not comfortable around smoking areas, and there were a couple of people who could not deal with my no smoking in the home, they stopped coming around.
coffee...I had to quit coffee for awhile....went to tea..too much association with a cig.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)not allowed under our leases, although we did cheat on especially cold nights during the winter. it's the smell on my clothes rather than the smoke itself that bothers me when i leave somewhere there's smoking inside.
it doesn't bother me to be around smoking and i vape in the smoking area at work.
i can see coffee being a trigger, but it will be pried out of my cold, dead hands. i like that vaping allows me to keep that morning routine of caffeine and nicotine. i'll dial back the level at some point, but want to feel stable with the no cig thing first.
