(31,534 posts)I suppose we all knew that Mary and Matthew would wind up together, but the way it happened seemed a lot like a Harlequin romance. I loved Mrs. Patmore with the Ouija board and Carson continues to be unflappable.
I'm still wondering at the alliance between O'Brien and Thomas. I really thought that Thomas had taken things too far this time with his failed plot to use the dog to get into Lord Crawley's good graces, but, once again, he came out smelling like a rose. I guess I'll have to wait a little longer for him to get his comeuppance.
My favorite character continues to be the Dowager Countess amd Maggie Smith is perfect for the part.

(3,109 posts)And the way they've set things up for season three is really cool. Yes there is going to be a season 3 and Cora's Mother is being played by Shirley MacLaine!
From what I understand the Christmas episode was a Special and shown in England as a standalone.
So far one of the finest TV series I've seen in my 61 years.

(1,472 posts)if you have Netflix...this is how I just got hooked over this last month.
I had a marathon and then caught up with season 2 via PBS.org
Season 2 episodes are available at the site until March 3rd, I believe. This is a great series and I can't wait for Season 3!

(56,912 posts)Just because Richard has kept it out of print doesn't mean that half of England is not talking about it...

(56,912 posts)she dumped Richard last night after Matthew decked Richard and her Father told him to leave in the morning
and the show ended with Matthew proposing to Mary on bended knee in the snow...with Downton Abbey in the background.
beautiful, if somewhat, sentimental scene.
so, I am having trouble understanding what this person is talking about.

(31,534 posts)to go public anyway or did I imagine that. They had another exchange, I'm sure. Maybe he figured that the only way to shut her up for sure was to kill her.

(31,534 posts)that he reminded her that they had made a deal, or something like that. There's so much going on and some of it is in such short clips, I sometimes have trouble keeping up with all the details.

(21,910 posts)if he comes back that could still mess things up.
Also, Matthew sure got over his ailment quickly... enough to punch out carlisle
After the show there was a bit of "behind the scenes". the characters look sooooooooooooooo different when they are themselves. I wouldn't recognize Daisy especially.
THey are now showing a new series of Upstairs/Downstairs in the U.K. I am looking forward to that coming over here too.

(168 posts)He just disappeared too quickly, I bet he will have a comeback in season 3. And I think Mr. Pamuk will continue to influence Mary's and Matthews life. The Dowager countess was certainly one of best characters of the show; her lines were priceless (When Sir Richard announced that they will never see him again, and she said "Do you promise?", that was hilarious!). I also really liked His Lordship. What a great man! And who wouldn't love Matthew

(2,682 posts)Until I read it here, I never thought Carlisle had anything to do with Vera's death. I didn't think Bates did, but I didn't think of who else would have had motive. What an interesting idea!!! It does make sense, however. Vera died before Mary broke her engagement to Carlisle. Carlisle previously told Mary that he would keep the Turk's death out of the papers. Vera sold the story to Carlisle although he may not have been convinced that she wouldn't sell it somewhere else. I certainly see the possibility of it. I will now wait for the next season to see if this comes out or if there is something else that will get Bates out of jail. This really is one damned fine series.

(44,974 posts)But so many people know that story already Richard would have to kill half an England to keep it a secret.

(50,130 posts)Is that how she died?
It would be unlikely for Richard to have her poisoned.
Still, very interesting possibility.
