Kicked in the head by a train:
A guy attempting to take a selfie in front of an oncoming train has learned an important lesson. That lesson is: maybe dont attempt to take a selfie in front of an oncoming train.
Hes got his serious selfie face all ready when all of a sudden the trains conductor lets out a yell and then sticks out his leg, kicking the guy square in the head.

This would-be selfie-taker, Jared Michael, posted a video of these action-packed 10 seconds on YouTube, explaining, I tried to take a selfie while a train passed a safe distance behind. I guess I was still too close and got kicked in the head. I messed up.

Meh, he was outside the danger zone, would have been safe if the conductor didn't take 'things' so seriously | |

I wouldn't group all youngins in with train-selfie guy, but the hope for easy and instant Internet fame appears to pull young people in most often.

(8,217 posts)It isn't the "I have to work on it" type of risk any more, like Rock Climbing and other stuff.
Just regular selfies nowadays.
Still, there are some pretty well done ones.

(12,272 posts)When I was young, I learned from my mistakes and minimized them by working harder.
These kids show them off
I know young people who practice discipline and perseverance, they are just too busy to take the time to post their feats/accomplishments on FB and YouTube.

Could someone with great technical skills explain how this video might have been manufactured?

(17,621 posts)If this isn't a hoax, that is.
If it is a hoax, then Jared has some talent.
Otherwise, stupid Jared was stupid close.
His hair and expression were selfie-perfect, then . . .

(26,602 posts)the train operator either - I can't imagine that kicking people in the head is an approved method of suggesting a safety zone...
Pretty good for the rest of us, though!

(188 posts)You notice the metal bar behind the train conductors leg? Probably saved the idiots life
siligut
(12,272 posts)That metal bar would have carved the kid's occipital lobe right off.

(26,602 posts)I think it's an engine like this one - if so, the conductor has his leg extending out through the ladderway, past the bar in question. If anything, I'd say knocking the kid off balance was a bit more dangerous - but all's well that ends well, and the world got a laugh...
siligut
(12,272 posts)I searched, but didn't have enough information to go on. Yes, I can see now that the ladder is the outermost structure on the train. The conductor's yell indicates to me that he thought the kid was too close and that the kick wasn't just punitive. Though, I agree the kick wasn't placed perfectly and thus may have increased the danger. I just hope there is a lesson in the laughter.
