Hearth Omens

If the ashes on the hearth clod together, it means rain.
If the wood crackles and breaks more than ordinary, expect a storm.
Cinders that bound from the fire often have their shape examined to determine if they are closer in shape to coffins or purses, presaging either death or wealth.
A flake of soot that hangs upon the bars of the grate denotes that a stranger will visit.
