Anyone musically inclined? Can you explain what the hell Chris Martin is talking about?

He explains his reason for his breakup with Gwyneth Paltrow, and I'm more confused than ever. I figure it has something to do with being musically inclined. I'm tone deaf so I don't understand that language.

Chris Martin Opens Up About “Mess” Behind Gwyneth Paltrow Split

He says of the Paltrow breakup, “I wouldn’t use the word breakdown, this was more a realization about trying to grow up.”

“If you can’t open yourself up, you can’t appreciate the wonder inside,” adds Martin. “You can be with someone wonderful, but because of your issues you can’t let that be celebrated in the right way.”

The performer reveals, “What changed for me was — I don’t want to go through life being scared of it, being scared of love, being scared of rejection, being scared of failure.”

“Ever since our band came out, we have been a very polarizing group because we do a certain thing very well,” continues Martin. “About two years ago I was a mess really because I can’t enjoy the thing that we are good at and I can’t enjoy the great things around me because I’m burdened by this — I’ve got to not blame anyone else and make some changes.”

Maybe he's referring to all the performances that they have had to cancel? Baitball Blogger Apr 2014 #2

Is interfering with his personal life and family life. Art can be like that sometimes.

You're holding back my art not letting me do toga parties and wild romps through hordes of groupies.

Hell, I'm musically inclined. My wife is not. So what? Paltrow seems perfectly pleasant, but I have never met her. I can't believe that her not being "musically inclined (enough)" is reason enough to break off an intimate relationship with her.

At the end of the day, I take an attitude toward all this gossip column stuff that I definitely do NOT take toward anything else: "I got mine, who cares whether or not you got yours?" I mean, I wish them both happiness, but won't lose sleep if it takes them a while to find it. It's not like someone is foreclosing on their mortgages illegally or denying them health care.

But it sounds to me that his crappy personal life was interfering with his music/band, and perhaps stifling him creatively. So he chose the band.

I think he bloviate way too much and is a pompous bore. Maybe Gwyneth thought so too.

And he does have a new record to sell.
