crap, give me a doughnut!

On Sunday after we returned MFMs ashes to the earth, and after we sat and told a few stories, Ptah headed down the road because he wanted to stop and get some photos of the barley fields around Marana. The husband and I drove around the roads at the park and and past the old Nickerson Farms building that is collapsing on itself (anybody remember that place - with the see-through beehive in the wall?)

Then we too headed back towards Tucson. About 15-20 miles down the three-lane east bound side, the traffic came to a halt. Oh no - and I had just called to confirm the restaurant reservations for the original time - in about 20 minutes! We couldn't see anything except the vehicles in front of us and nobody was moving.

In my panic all I could do was think about eating a doughnut. We had picked up a box fresh in Benson on our way but nobody wanted any so they were just sitting there in the back seat. It was a pretty nasty thing to eat stuck in traffic right before lunch, I have to say.

Finally, things started to move and eventually all three lanes got by the wreck using the inside shoulder. It was a very lucky day for many. The traffic was still light as it was Sunday and the wind wasn't blowing as it had been (and is again today ) and these fools pulling a too-large load managed to walk out of this potential deadly situation.

Bet they had some laundry to do though.

Wow, that looks familiar.

We must have been right behind you!! I was just grateful to see that everyone was out and walking around. What a horrible way to end(?) a weekend.

I can just see us both getting pulled over for dealing doughnuts on the freeway.

What we really needed was freakin' water. I'm so out of practice on road trip prep. But, that's when I came up with the idea for the Chapstick/Antiperspirant/Water stands!

I need to hire some people. No way I'm standing out there in that heat...and dust...and exhaust...and flipping trailers.
