I am on poop alert.

I am pretty sure my 8 month old kitten ate a wad of thread this morning. She had just grabbed it when I saw her and reached for it, but she took off like a bolt of lightning. Looked all over for the thread but couldn't find it. Gave her a healthy dose of laxatone and am now waiting anxiously for some results in the litterbox. Happened 12 hours ago so I am hoping it will be soon. Have to watch closely, so I get there before the dogs do, if you catch my drift. And, yes, I am aware of the possible danger of this and will keep in touch with my vet. Please tell me that someone out there has dealt with this kind of situation before.

It took around 20 hours, and as it started the descent, he took fright and ran around the house with half of it out his backside for a half hour. We were able to gently get the rest of it out but he was still very indignent about the whole process and hid for three days afterwards.

If you're worried, or if the kitten starts becoming distressed (straining to poop, blood, crying, not eating), take her to the vet ASAP.

I did poop duty for over a week. He ended up having surgery and they even took out his appendix as they thought that might have been where it went. It wasn't there and they never found it.

It "appeared" the day he got home from the hospital. I threatened to make an earring or some other item of jewelry out of it when he needs reminding of certain things. (it is in a small jar in a drawer somewhere)

used to try and eat needles. I pulled them out of their mouths more than once. Fortunately none of them ever swallowed any.

Thread is bad enough, thank you. She finally did her duty at the 14th hour. Totally normal with no thread. Will still be on poop duty tomorrow, I guess.

The first time I saw one of my cats doing that I thought WTH!!! Pulled needles and pins out of his mouth at least twice and swipe his mouth with my finger to make sure there was nothing in there. Two other cats tried to do the same thing and I pulled needles or pins out of their mouths too. I should have learned my lesson the first time but I thought it was just an aberration with the first cat. Now I know never to leave any pin cushions unattended where ANY cats could get to them. Hope your kitty passes the thread with no issues.

and happened to swallow one of my ~1-2 foot long hairs. On more than one occasion a dog has run around as if being chased by something invisible, turning to look behind several times. What was there was a dingleberry hanging like a pendulum from the poor dog's rear.

My mom's cousin had a darning needle in a frame in her bathroom with a note that said it had passed through a baby, and my mom said she found a penny in my diaper. I think those two things were put into the diaper from the outside!

Good luck and hope you have a happy outcome (cough)

She had another "outcome" this morning. Still nothing. I wish now that I hadn't seen it happen. Maybe she didn't swallow it after all and I just didn't see it when looking for it. Sheesh!

but you probably don't want to know.

My 4 month old kitten ate hair out of my hair brush along with a few bristles and had to have emergency surgery to remove the hair ball. The vet was also afraid that the bristles could puncture her intestines. I knew there was something wrong because she was very lethargic and just didn't act like herself. There was a happy ending, she is now over 2-years-old and still a little demon who gets in way too much trouble but still manages to be the light of my life.

I read so many horror stories on the internet, so I know the risk. I won't let my guard down even though I think she is ok.

I called the vet on a Friday and since I didn't even have a real complaint other than she just doesn't seem like herself, we made an appointment for the following Monday and I was going to keep an eye on her so I wouldn't have to rush to get her there in place of a cancellation the vet had. It's a good thing I changed my mind because the vet told me if I had waited until Monday I probably would have lost her.

My house has to be constantly baby-proofed now but some of the things she gets in to <sigh> would never have even occurred to me as something that would be interesting to a cat.

I am still in limbo because she has not had any signs of distress at all, but I refuse to let down my guard. She is eating, playing, and using the litterbox normally. I am beginning to think she didn't really swallow it because she ran off with it, but believe me, I am still paranoid!

I've had many chases through the house to try to find where Raven is hiding her latest "treasure." Just yesterday I found a package of sliced almonds for salads underneath the dining room table with claw and teeth marks in it. I think she thought it was a bag of kitty treats.

I first discovered it when i saw a telltale (as it were) string of the floss exiting from her butt. Not giving it much thought, I reached down and took hold of it. The indomitable Olga walked away from me, and voila! the floss came out in a nice, painless, unsnarled line. I am far more careful with my floss disposal these days.
