I work on a college campus, so naturally, there are lots of squirrels. I usually don't pay much attention to them. But...
There's this one that seems otherwise healthy, but is missing about a quarter of its fur. For weeks, it has been hanging out just outside the building I work in. And sometimes, when I am out there, it stares at me.
Creepy.

(5,946 posts)It would wait for me on the porch and when I tried to go out, it would run toward the door. Scared me, I ended up having to use the front door or set the dog on it. Although after a while it got to the dog as well and she did not want to go out there.

(28,127 posts)They're still cute. We feed our porch rats every day and one of the little varmints, if not fed on time, does body slams on our French doors.
We do call 'em our fuzzy tailed rats.

Can you tell we're currently between dogs? Our last baby girl died and we've not yet adopted another. When we do, our squirrel feeding days will be over.

(20,234 posts)We had one in our yard with mange. We treated it successfully. We got the stuff you put into a walnut shell with some peanut butter. The trick was to rig it up so we could allow that squirrel to have the medicated treat, but none of the others. We ended up putting it under a wooden box that was rigged to a pulley that we could control from the kitchen window, to reveal the nut when the correct squirrel arrived.
