Thanks for the news. I had no clue that she was facing such a challenge. She has always been so kind to everyone with all of her "my dear(s). . ."

There is no way all that kindness won't rebound back to her ten fold in her recovery.

If anyone missed her April Fool's joke on that proclivity last year, then you really missed an amazingly funny prank.

About 30 years ago, one of my dearest friend's great aunt had one of the earliest knee replacement surgeries. She was in her 80's and post surgery, was able to dance an Irish jig until the day she passed over near age 100.

So I'll visualize California Peggy dancing an Irish jig in the not too distant future.

A speedy recovery, great love, and appreciation to her.

I've been waiting to hear how she'd doing. I'm more than delighted to hear she's doing well. She's a precious human being who brings grace into everyone's life.

The physical therapist made her get out of bed today. She didn't want to, but it's good for her.

Is that the plan?

If she can, a week in a pt rehab is a good thing because you have regular attention, and you can't skip pt sessions, they manage your pain meds, and so on.

I've had major knee surgery and rehab and the time at the center was very important I think.

but the plan could change depending on what the doctors say.

pretend like the watery broth is actually a fine French consomme'...

As a nurse, tell her to move and walk when the doctors say she is able. Even if it hurts like a bitch!

I was looking for a thread over in GD and it then dawned on me, Peg would be over here.

... she might need once she gets home. Mostly bathroom assist-and-safety bars -- it would
be ironic and terrible if she got her knee fixed only to slip and fall and break a hip in the
bathtub. She'll need some direct observation and hands-on help (whether she'll admit it or
not) for a while

There may be temporary set-ups... but I'm betting medical supply outlets would know (as
well as the PT depts at the hospital) how to contact specialists/installers. I'm still paranoid
about slipping in the tub -- little, tiny baby steps, fully-focused.

You may be able to rent a "rise-assist" chair for the living +/or dining room. There are
"booster" seats for the commode, too.

Any in-patient time in a rehab facility? The folks I dealt with were some of the most caring
medical professionals I've encountered. They KNOW, without arrogance, how important
their work is -- and they seemed, pretty universally, like genuinely NICE people.

I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

I had 7 operations on my foot in less than a year. The walker was real handy, particularly in the bathroom, where I was lucky to already have a shower with a seat in it. I used the wheelchair at first for all but the shortest of trips. I got tired so easily, you see. I could tell how much I was able to do, and ditched the wheelchair when I was ready, then the walker. Today I use a cane but can get by without one.

Except for sleeping in bed at night, I spent almost all my early recovery time at home in my favorite recliner with my feet up, watching TV. Mrs. Lasher brought me everything I needed. She is an angel.

I know pain management can be challenging when you've had a knee replacement. I've been worried that Peggy in this respect and hope she is not hurting much. Pain medication is available for good reasons and this is one of them.

Lasher

can help with a lot of this, in addition to physical therapy.
(Daughter's just about to complete her studies for OT degree.)

But I'm glad to hear CaliforniaPeggy is doing well. One of my favorite posters.
