(50,557 posts)Back in them thar days, a TV show had a "primary sponsor." It was usually a cigarette company in the old days; the cigarette companies had a LOT of money to spend on advertising and weren't afraid to try new things.
There were two kinds of these ads. Stand-alones, like this one, were placed at the end of the show. YouTube is full of these. Inline ads were more insidious; they were written right into the script. Real ones have mostly been lost, but The Truman Show used them as a plot point.

(19,834 posts)When Kelloggs was the main sponsor they frequently worked Jethro eating giant bowls of corn flakes into the scripts. Today's product placements are a lot more subtle by comparison.

It is on Youtube and it was a hoot to see it again after 55 years.
