Back in them thar days, a TV show had a "primary sponsor." It was usually a cigarette company in the old days; the cigarette companies had a LOT of money to spend on advertising and weren't afraid to try new things.

There were two kinds of these ads. Stand-alones, like this one, were placed at the end of the show. YouTube is full of these. Inline ads were more insidious; they were written right into the script. Real ones have mostly been lost, but The Truman Show used them as a plot point.

And during the theme song, a branding iron in the shape of the Chevrolet logo would "brand" the map of the Ponderosa, which would then catch on fire.

When Kelloggs was the main sponsor they frequently worked Jethro eating giant bowls of corn flakes into the scripts. Today's product placements are a lot more subtle by comparison.

It was some of the cast of the TV show "Wagon Train"
riding in a Ford sedan.
It is on Youtube and it was a hoot to see it again after 55 years.
