I watched the beginning again.
Tara is not dead, we never saw her die we just know that a vampire was staked near Tara's mom Lettie Mae. Lettie Mae is not a reliable witness, she's a crackpot ex-drunk who uses Jesus as the reason for everything good and bad in her life (way over kill on that btw - the woman could have a good bowel movement and would somehow find a way to say it was Jesus who made it happen).
So here are the facts:
- We know a vampire die but we never actually saw who got staked
- Lettie Mae is a very unreliable witness.
- Tara has been unhappy, the woman she thought she loved (her maker Pam) left town to find Eric (Pam's maker). And Tara has always wanted to get out of Bon Temp anyways.
- Tara is one of the 6 lead characters (Sookie, Bill, Eric, Sam, Jason and of course Tara). I can't imagine TB writers would kill of a main character that callously especially when they devoted half an episode last year to Terry Bellefluer's death (someone who was always 2nd-3rd tier character.
- Tara has died before and she came back (when they turned her to vampire after Debbie Pelt blew out half her brains).
- In season #5 we learned from that red-headed member of the Vampire Authority that Makers can sense when one of their prodigies have died. We saw plenty of Pam and not once did she sense anything. Even if Pam did ditch Tara to find Eric you'd think she'd have a shiver or something to show that she lost a child, even if it was a child she really didn't want in the first place.
- TB writers do shit like this, don't believe what you see
- Remember right before the end of last season's finale, Tara fed off her mom. So Tara should be good to go with feeding for a few days, she could just be off trying to find Pam.
Tara will be back - you can bet on that! And not as some spooky spirit. My guess is IF Tara is seen as a spirit it will either be Lafayette doing hardcore drugs or Lettie Mae falls off the wagon. You can't count those as real spirits, just byproduct of chemicals to the brain.

(4,851 posts)At first I thought the same as you. As we watched it I told my wife that Tara deserved a death on screen and no way they would do it that way. I thought Tara glamoured her mom to say she was dead after Tara killed the bald guy. But in the post-episode interviews, I changed my mind. But those are often mis-information, so I could be wrong. Either way, I have no doubt she will be a series regular this season.
