So that is, hold it, need my calculator: 36 years.

I think by now we realize that we have been through so much losing jobs, several times, moving across the country, twice. Being there in "sickness and in health," losing parents that by now we just feel that we belong together, being there for each other for the next medical problem, finishing each other sentence, even sometimes wearing the same color combinations.. Just feeling comfortable around each other doing our own but also to each his and her interests.

One secret? We were not young wide eyes and we got married. We've known each other for many years - grad school - so when we made it official we've already matured and more or less set in our ways.

Even the year I had to deal with a cancer diagnosis and the few years we were going through miscarriages. There were moments of being afraid or of heartbreak, but I've never thought of us as being unhappy.

10 years of unhappy marriage the first time around.

10 years of happy, one year of unhappy marriage the second time around.

Currently 13 years of single: one ground zero horrific year, the rest...not so great, but have had their moments of content.
