I'm a fan, but probably not as devoted as you!

My favorite song of theirs is "Summerhead" off the Four-Calendar Cafe album (which I love).
In light of your information, I might have to wonder about what "Summerhead" is really about!

....... Heaven or Las Vegas (Four Calendar was next after that) very few of the songs had actual lyrics. The story has changed over the years, back in the day (80s) it was said that she was singing "phonemic sounds" that suited the emotion she was conveying. Later it was modified to "some phonemic sounds, some words here and there and some foreign words".

Once I got my head around what they were doing I didn't care about lyrics. Most 25-year-olds have little of substance to say anyway. And her voice is so beautiful and expressive she really doesn't need words Really, there is no one I'd rather hear sing.

By the time of FCC, Robin and Liz were split up and tensions were very high (hence Bluebeard). I haven't really paid attention to Summerhead perhaps I will.

If you have never heard it listen to the mostly "acoustic" album that just Robin and Liz did in their home studio, called Victorialand. Just stunning!

And I LOVED the work she did on the "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack. I thought her bits were WAY better than Enya's and I wish they'd used her more.

Had no idea about the split! Last I'd heard was they had a baby and everything was wonderful, but then, that was probably 25 years or more ago! (where does the time go? Geez I'm old!)

Will check out Victorialand! My CT catalog is very lacking. Besides FCC I have:
Garlands
Head Over Heels
Treasure

and that's it.

I've always meant to get more but somehow never did.

.... that wasn't first rate was their last album, after FCC and when the bitterness of the breakup was apparently unbearable for Liz.

And while I didn't mention it, the early albums you mention, Garlands, Head Over Heels, not so much Treasure (a fan favorite but one that Liz and Robin hated, especially back then) had lyrics. It was around Treasure that they abandoned them up until Heaven or Las Vegas. To be honest, even their songs with lyrics are somewhat undecipherable, except FCC where the songs are pretty easy to follow.

You should definitely get Blue Bell Knoll, Heaven or Las Vegas, Love's Easy Tears, hell any of it except what came after FCC

I am a virtual font of (ok somewhat useless Cocteau Twins trivia! Would you believe that Prince once named CT as a favorite?

Somewhat surprising about Prince, but on the other hand, I think talented musicians recognize other talent when they hear it, even if it isn't similar to their own stuff.

I always dread being asked what music I listen to. Do I name some well known bands that I might only listen to occasionally, or do I name my real favourites and get a lot of blank stares?

Just once I'd like to hear somebody say: "Holy cow, I love The Wildhearts too!"

Spotcheck Billy got down on his hands and knees
He said "Hey mama, hey let me check your oil all right?"
She said "No, no honey, not tonight.
Come back Monday, come back Tuesday, and then I might"

I said Juanita, my sweet Jaunita, what are you up to?
My Juanita
I said Jaunita, my sweet chiquita, what are you up to?
My Juanita

Don't want nobody who won't dive for dimes
Don't want no speedballs 'cause I might die trying
Throw me a line, throw me a line
'Cause there's a fat man in the bathtub with the blues
I hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan

Billy got so sad, dejected, put on his hat and start to run
Runnin' down the street yelling at the top of his lungs
"All I want in this life of mine is some good clean fun"
"All I want in this life and time is some hit and run"

I said Juanita, my sweet Jaunita, what are you up to?
My Jaunita
I said Jaunita, my sweet chiquita, what are you up to?
My Juanita

Put my money in your meter baby so it won't run down
But you caught me in the squeeze play on the cheesy side of town
Throw me a dime, throw me a line
'Cause there's a fat man in the bathtub with the blues
I hear you moan, I hear you moan, I hear you moan
