My dog loves America, but hates the 4th of July

She hates fireworks.
They freak her out big time.
Mrs. Pooka got a Thundershirt a couple years ago and I must admit it does work.
Pulled it out last night after the kids started celebrating the 4th early and she calmed down.
She gets so scared/anxious we now go for a car ride in the evening on the 4th so she can't hear all the bang bangs.
The irony is Mrs. Pooka LOVES Fireworks displays.
Fortunately there is a mall parking lot we can park in to watch the town fireworks display so we get a win win, kinda.

Being in an urban area - there are fireworks in every gosh darn town. My town is just 4 square miles, the fireworks are 1 block from my house. It is an Italian town so many Italian fireworks (the flash/bang kind),
I just turn on the TV loud and put on the air conditioner no matter what temp. She sleeps under the computer table. She is not scared so much as annoyed, my previous dog was scared.

My old dog doesn't have to worry about fireworks; we live way out in the boonies and nobody in our little rural area would use homemades because of the fire hazard. She IS terrified of thunder, though; hides behind my legs, leans on them, shakes, and drools.
