(S.D.)-Officers Report 94 DUI Arrests In Connection With Rally

STURGIS, S.D. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - The South Dakota Highway Patrol has reported 94 DUI arrests so far in connection with this week's Sturgis Rally.

The Patrol says that as of 6 a.m. Tuesday 104 people have been arrested for misdemeanor drug offenses and 34 for felony drug offenses. Authorities have seized more than $7,300 in cash.

The 74th rally started Monday and runs through Sunday. Organizers expect attendance to top the estimated 466,000 who made the annual trek last year.

The Department of Public Safety says it has tallied 27 injury crashes so far this week compared to 31 during the same period last year.

Mr. froggy and I used to go to the Rally every year, and our kids still do, but it’s gotten too scary for us old folks.

We started seeing big clumps of motorcycles as far back as Chicago. I think we even stopped briefly in Sturgis for lunch or gas. It was pretty crazy seeing that many people and vehicles in such a small town.

it's bumper to bumper motorcycles all the way through the Black Hills, including on the narrow Needles highway. Ha, that reminds me. Last summer as mr. froggy and I were on that road, coming around the bend toward us was a silver-haired biker who we could've sworn was Bill Clinton. He had a bigass Harley and a happy grin on his face.

A couple of summers ago at Horseshoe Lake mr. froggy and I saw a knife fight between members of opposing motorcycle gangs (I think one was a Bandido) in which the loser died. Not our kind of entertainment, so we now stay home during the rally.
