Tennis legend Martina Navratilova, 57, got engaged to girlfriend Julia Lemigova, 42, in a moment that was telecast on the Jumbotron during the day's play at New York's Arthur Ashe stadium.
Navratilova popped the question during a break while she was providing color commentary for the men's matches.
The tennis legend was being interviewed by Ken Solomon in the Tennis Channel suite when she turned to Lemigova and said she would be asking the questions this time. Navratilova got down on one knee and offered her girlfriend a diamond-studded ring.
Lemigova teared up before embracing Navratilova and saying yes. The pair then popped the cork on a magnum of Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial champagne to toast to their future together.

Congratulations (I hope she was absolutely certain it would be 'yes' - public proposals put pressure on people, I think)

(33,688 posts)2. I have always been a fan of hers.
She just seems like a very cool person, and I remember her great rivalry with Chris Evert. Spent many a Fourth of July and Labor Day watching them battle at Wimbledon and the US Open.
Congrats!!

Long time fan.
Lol however, her track record with women is not much better than mine.
I think I wouldn't have put it out there for the world. Just sayin.'
I remember Rita Mae, Nancy, Judy. some skier, and quite a few others.
Hey, nothing wrong with it. Been there. Just lucky that I'm not famous. If I even bring up a new flame, my friends roll their eyes. So, I did with Martina. And saying all that...I hope it works for her.

... it wasn't a spontaneous proposal.
