In honor of Cat Stevens's new album and tour: Songs you didn't know were covers

To take the obvious hit: "The first cut is the deepest".

I had no idea until recently when I was going through my dad's vinyl collection and unearthed his Cat Stevens collection. Sue me.

because Nirvana performed it on an "MTV Unplugged" special in 1994. I've added comments to let them know it was written and recorded by David Bowie 24 years earlier.

Of course, lots of people probably know it from the album/radio single, which wouldn't have had the song introductions. I remember them doing a ton of covers on that show.

I'd have to watch it again. But I remember reading a comment somewhere that Bowie had done a cover of Nirvana's "The Man Who Sold the World" and I felt compelled to correct them on it.

On the subject of covers, and Cat Stevens, I didn't realize for years that his "Another Saturday Night" was a cover of a 1950s song...

The original is by NOLA's fabulous Irma Thomas. Keith frequents NOLA, so he must have heard it there.
