Can you give me advice about driving with a J-gate

gear shift?

I've driven automatic and manual before, not a J-gate.

Do you brake to shift gears?

Do you go sequentially from 2 to 5 like a manual?

The only time you would use the positions on the left is if you want to accelerate hard and desire to run the gears to higher rpms OR if you are in the mountains and desire the transmission to hold a gear for an extended period, like climbing or descending a grade

No. Of course not.

The answer to your last question is sure, if you want to. I don't know what model this is but the engine controls will not let you damage the transmission.

to when I rented a car in the UK. I was too cheap to spend the extra $100 for an automatic and found myself driving on the left side of the road in a manual transmission. Keep in mind the gear shift is on the left side. I am so uncoordinated that I had a heck of a time shifting left handed. I ran into a curb and blew out the tire. Couldn't find the spare. It's in the boot but the jack is in the bonnet.

Sometimes I'm not too smart.
