It's Official: Twin Peaks Will Return!

It's Official: Twin Peaks Will Return!

Yes, it's happening. No more vague tweets about a possible return; co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost have come together with Showtime to announce via video that TWIN PEAKS IS BACK!!!!! [UPDATED]

...

UPDATE: Deadline is reporting that Twin Peaks will return as a limited series on Showtime. Both Lynch and Frost are involved again. This nine-episode series is rumored to start production this year and premiere in 2016, coinciding with the 25 year anniversary date. Which is exactly when Laura Palmer told us she'd be seeing us all again.

Deadline is also reporting that the new series will be set in modern day and will take place two decades after the series left off. No one is officially back, but we can't imagine Frost and Lynch would move forward without Kyle MacLachlan on board.

For those of you who are unaware, the scene this video is referring to is from the episode in which Laura Palmer promises, "I'll see you again in 25 years, meanwhile...." And just like she promised, they're coming back.

Wonder what its resurrection will be like? I hope it doesn't suck - same people, only old? Too bad it will be on Showtime.

Now, it's cookie cutter crime procedurals where a team of highly intelligent people solve major crimes within an hour.

Though I watched Twin Peaks every week, was entertained by it and joined in all the trendy water-cooler conversations regarding it the next day, I was never able to "get" it until a close friend told me, "Lynch's most effective method of story telling isn't dialog or even montage-- if you rely on those for cues and clues, you'll be lost (I did, and I was). On the other hand, if you let the *emotion* of the story or the character clue you in as much (if not more so) than the script, you'll have a better chance of "getting" it."

I think he was right. I re-watched the series about ten years ago, and let his method inform how I viewed it, and I'll be damned if it wasn't ten times more comprehensible than during my original viewing of it.

(On the other hand, that could be because during its original airing, I'd smoke pot to excess prior to, and during Twin Peaks...)

He is master of atmospherics and settings communicating far more than the actual dialogue.

I lived in Redmond in '89-'92 and completely ignored casting calls for extras at the time and regret missing out on the whole phenomenon back then.

Now that I've seen (and loved) the series, I'm not making that mistake again. I also visit the area frequently.

We lived on Redmond - Fall City road near Marymoor Park at the time. You've probably seen me dozens of times riding my bike in the area, or going to or from work through that park.

I know TPs was a terribly sexist/misogynist series (Lynch is a piece of work) but I was still addicted. It was so quirky and something of a parody of itself. I've been trying to get my teenage kids to watch the old series on Netflix, but they didn't like the first couple of episodes. I'm going to have to find a buddy to watch it with.

I'm so down for this. I watched every episode twice when it came out. I subscribed to a Twin Peaks newsletter, read every book tie-in and saw the feature a bunch of times. This will rock.

'Don't drink the coffee, there's a fish in the percolator.' (One of the many off the wall lines in this amazing series.)

If anyone can post the video the article mentions here it would be appreciated.
